Yeah, Gai can use ninjutsu and possibly genjutsu, he just focused on his Taijutsu.

I couldn't see him having bothered to master something that isn't tai.

A combination of Tsunade's regeneraiton tech and opening gates would be the most haxx taijutsu in NV.
No strain; just heal immedeatly and keep on blitzing/spamming Hirudora or Asakujaku to no end.

But he has no way of getting it; he has some ninjutsu; but it is nothing much just 3 points in databook and a summoning; nothing related to healing at all.
