[Discussion] What Kubo meant by the 'numbers increasing'?

It was stated in an interview that the enemy numbers would increase throughout this arc. Do you think he meant:

-More Stern Ritters being revealed?
-A seperate enemy group that are allied with the Vandenreich?
-Or a third enemy party that are a threat to both the Gotei and the Vandenreich?

I'm not so sure, if it's the Royal guard you're talking about, they seemed very friendly and healed Ichigo and the others.

Nope. I mean a different race all together; a race which we've yet to seen. And the only we know of their existence is 'cause Kubo has indicated so through Urahara.

Who are they? I only got to know Bleach through the current arc, so I don't know too much about the Series as whole.
