I have a question that may have been answered already in the Manga, but nothing I can think of at the moment...

Do all 5 Kage have a predetermined successor they have, like a Vice President of sorts? Or in the case of their death, is it always just a scramble to appoint and vote someone in to that position?

Bonus question, who is the next/most likely person in line for each of the five villages?

Thanks for reading!

Nope, then Tsunade wouldn't have had a successor chosen by council....there would have been an interim kage....

i know that Konoha doesn't and i know that Kumogakure at least had it, because 3rd Hokage got chosen by Tobirama before he went to die, when Tsunade couldn't wake up, they had to vote who the next Hokage is gonna be, same happened when 3rd died, they had to decide

after 3rd Raikage died, his son got chosen as Raikage, so there is a chance it was decided before

Vice President for Tsunade wouldn't be her replacement though. Shizune and Sakura are her vice Presidents.
But the next one would be determined by the council. Jirayah was her vice president though, If her didn't die.

Yeah, I guess there is only rare circumstances that this can happen. I guess the Kage has the power to anoint his successor without any council vote as well.

That's true

Yeah, I guess in their system that the Kage can have who he/she sees as a "right hand man", but that doesn't necessarily guarantee them the title upon the current Kage's passing

I thought that it was decided by the people of the village though?

And the answer to your second question:
Naruto-Leaf
Darui-Cloud
Chojuro-Mist
Kankuro-Sand
Kitsuchi/Kurotsuchi-Stone

And the answer to your second question:
Naruto-Leaf Kakashi - If he was good enough to nominate before, I think it still rings true now
Darui-Cloud
Chojuro-Mist
Kankuro-Sand Temari - She seems to hold more of a leadership role in the village than Kankuro
Kitsuchi/Kurotsuchi-Stone

I guess it's just circumstantial, but from what I know about all the Hokages, at least, Hashi is the only one "voted" in to office. The other 5 were all appointed by either the current Kage or by council.

I agree with your 5 successors, expect for the two I added by their names in bold.

I don't agree with Chojuro being the Kage. I am his fanboy but let's be realistic here. He is one of the seven swordsman of the mist that alone would disqualify him besides he isn't mature enough or someone who has shown leadership skills. I believe Mei still has some youth left in her to keep going as the Kage.

Kakashi got killed off by deva pain. Naruto saved the village. Naruto turn the tide of war for the entire shinobi alliance. He also with the help of minato saved the entire shinobi alliance. Naruto is stronger then the average kage and when it comes down 2 it more then capable of protecting the village more so then Kakashi. I recall Kakashi on his knees facing obito and naruto having to save and snap him out of it.

Give naruto some sealing jutsu and you have one of the most powerful kage in the entire manga.

Nah, but when a Kage has an apprentice or child, that person is likely to become the next kage.

That's a good point. I'm thinking more down the lines of leadership than brute power. While the Kage of a village should be strong, I don't believe that should be the only requirement

i think all the decisions would fall on the elders or the adviser until a new kage is picked
