Why didn't Naruto get the "hero of the leaf" treatment when he beat Gaara?

I mean he beat a tailed beast that had the potential of wiping out the whole town or at least do severe damage to it with some of its devastating attacks that no one outside of jiraiya was really ready to deal with, not to mention the jinchuuriki host was the odds on favorite to win the chuunin exams.

Third Hokage died, Orochimaru was in the village and Sound + Sand shinobi attacked the Leaf, and of course, Sasuke ran away.

5 Prong Seal was released by Jiraiya before that went down. Tsunade didn't make her appearance until much later.

Third Hokage died, Orochimaru was in the village and Sound + Sand shinobi attacked the Leaf, and of course, Sasuke ran away.

2 or of 3 correct. 3rd died so kind of inappropriate to be celebrating and yeah Orochimaru was the real threat. Sasuke was still there. He took on Gaara 1st then Naruto.

He was acknowledge as a ninja of the leaf and not just the nine tails host. but also since they were tricked and the third died.

Third Hokage dying was more impacting than Naruto saving the village from Gaara. Like others say it wasn't his time to get acknowledged by others.
