[Discussion] Not sure about Shikamaru's fate right now. Kurenai's kid.

Shikamaru said he was going to be Asuma's child's teacher.

The possibility of leaving that unsettled kinda makes me think that maybe he won't actually die unless it actually gets addressed. Storytelling-wise they can't create a dead-end like that. I'm thinking of the Will of Fire thing, where Asuma asked Shikamaru to pass his will on to Kurenai's kid. If Shikamaru dies, he won't be able to do it.

Here are two ideas:

1) Shikamaru has shared this plan with Naruto back when he was trying to help him cope with Jiraiya's death. I think this means that if he dies it might automatically get passed to Naruto. I also think this because Shikamaru was like, "It's our turn to be the cool grownups now" to Naruto.

2) Another possibility is that, being the genius that he is and knowing that he had to go to war, he thought of something in advance and prepared something to leave behind. Naruto's parents left their will with Naruto when they died, in the form of the ninetails and also a couple of chakra "voicemails." So this means that even though Kurenai's kid is still an infant there is a way to leave something for him (it ended up being a boy, right?).

If Shikamaru does live, then none of these things will even matter. But if he does die, then would the plan that he had to be this kid's mentor be important enough to address at some point before the series ends?

Are you legitimately suggesting that the "thinking" bubble above Shikamaru's head in the panel where he's next to the Third is an indication of death?

He's still alive. Naruto had a flashback of Asuma's funeral, which then showed the panels of the Third and Ino-Shika-Cho

His disadvantage is his chakra just like Kakashi.. He had a hard time maintaining his Shadow Possession but he gained better, but its still his weakness overall...

shikamaeu is not going nowhere sakura is going to perform a jutsu, probably going to give him some of her life force to him. I think I posted a thred like this b4 about sakura for all the sakura haters. she studied under tsunade and chiyo even though it was for a little time + after naruto and co saved gaara both villages have been strenghting each ohter so shikamaru is not dying.

Oh my god are you for real, he's literally one of the most important people on the entire battlefield. They'd all be dead if it weren't for Shikamaru. Or sorry, does everyone have to have Senju DNA or ultra sharigan rinnegan to be important? Ugh.

How do you feel about the small possibility of Sakura's death this chapter too? It's alluded to somewhat and she might pull a Lady Chiyo on us soon.

If Sakura dies, I am sure she won't die permanently. But as followed by the patterns and parallels made by Kishi, I think it's a possibility.
This last chapter was called regrets, which means the next volume will focus on that.
I know you won't like what I'm about to say because it involves a little bit of pairings, but that's how Kishi wrote the story so if anyone can't get past their personal preferences, I'd advise them to stop reading from here on.

As already mentioned in other discussions I had with other people, we know Obito's biggest regret is not confessing his to Rin and Minato's biggest regret, outside the Naruto matter is the fact that he couldn't protect Kushina, thus she died.
As known by past chapters, Naruto wants to protect Sakura at all costs [Gaara battle taught us that, his KM4 incident and the talk with Yamato also tells us that, that the most important person for him is Sakura along with Sasuke], as well, he wants to confess Sakura but he doesn't find it deemable because he couldn't retrieve Sasuke back to her.
Now, following these patterns, we know that Naruto's goals, almost every each of them have been put to test, minus, his love interest. I kow you'll say no, bla bla, he doesn't love her, but come on. Why would he want to confess and why would he call her his girlfriend? Preferences aside, and inside our hearts, we all know Sakura is his love interest.
Now, Obito has this one last bit to struck at him, in order to make him go through all the despair he went through when Rin died.

Now, we have Sakura, who is also highly frustrated like Naruto, that she couldn't save everyone because of that goddamn tree. Now we have her trying to bring back Shikamaru.
Story-wise and parallel wise, we know that she is the parallel to Rin and Kushina. What did both of these two female characters did? Died protecting Konoha in a way.

Seeing how she was also struck by the same feeling of impotence, so to speak, as Naruto, I feel that she will suffer the same fate as Kushina and Rin, as in either almost die or die [but not for good] in a process of protecting not only Konoha, but the whole Alliance since now we aren't talking only about villages.

This way, the parallel cycle with Rin-Kushina-Sakura comes to full circle, Obito's parallel with Naruto as well, in which Obito will bring him exactly in his shoes and from there on, we should have the final thing with the new generation surpassing the old one. [minus ofc, the last one, aka the battle between naruto and sasuke]

So yeah, I think that Sakura's death or near-death state card is going to be played soon, the only difference is either she won't die, or she'll die temporarily and be brought back later.

i read rest just after answering that^^ i started watching naruto few years back flashbacks of itachi back at chuunin exam i knew then he is serious man.. plot was awesome blablabla but now that manga _sucks_ i just cant stop reading it even tough it isnt worth reading and i wait every wednesday it to come.

ievery 50th chapter something big happen now we're close to 650

so i hope in 10 chapters this bijuus + edos + juubito etc fight will end which was total failure.. akira made dbz and maybe kishi quotet that a little with this fight.

other than that manga is great, and probably will turn over after this god tree scene.
