thinking::yayy: wow! senpai is such a badass... I'm glad he's not an enemy...

I noticed it's a lot harder to use this method without some form of movement! Doesn't that make it easier for the opponent to read and predict moves?
Indeed. Since these generally affect a greater surface they also require more chakra, thus needing handseals or other means of helping to mold chakra.

You learned this one. :)

(Doton: Ganchūsō) - Earth Release: Stone Spikes
Rank: C
Type: Attack
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: This technique lets the user create a few rock pillars that will protrude from the ground to skew the target. The rock pillars will even pass through obstacles to reach their target

Now, the rest of the method is in the spoiler. Once again the principle is simple. You mold your chakra and depending on the size and characteristics of the technique, you perform handseals. Then you release the chakra into the ground and using shape manipulation you manipulate the earth on the battlefield in order to attack or defend. Now I want you to skip the performing and start by telling me how would you defend against the first 10 techniques. We'll split the list in a few posts to make it easier.

Manipulating the Dragon Veins requires fine chakra control, but if one has such skill, they can use this technique to divide the space between the enemy and their own team in two, destroy enemy camps or defences, and even to attack.

This is a long list :mad:_@: good idea, senpai

(Doton: Gansetsukon) - Earth Release: Rock Section Cane
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary/Offense
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: This technique allows the user to take a small chunk of rock and turn it into the shape of a staff. The user can then use it as a melee weapon or throw it with pinpoint accuracy at their opponent. A variation of this technique allows the user to create several staffs and launch them at the target, but with less accuracy.

How I'd defend against it: I'd use a supplementary/defensive Raiton Jutsu, such as lightning armor, to dissipate the staffs. Or, an elemental wall Jutsu. If I were fast enough, I could deflect or dodge the staffs.

(Doton: Ganban Kyu) - Earth Release: Bedrock Coffin
Rank: C
Type: Offense
Range: Mid/Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: After performing the Rat hand seal, the user to control multiple sections of rock and move them around their opponent. The user then forms two gigantic sections that crush the opponent.

How I'd defend against it: This Jutsu seems slow. I could channel lightning chakra to prevent the sections from crushing me. Likewise, if I were skilled enough, using a higher ranked Earth Jutsu to defend myself from the crushing motion is effective. I could, for example, use Earth Armor to take the hit.

(Doton: Ganchūsō) - Earth Release: Stone Spikes
Rank: C
Type: Attack
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: This technique lets the user create a few rock pillars that will protrude from the ground to skew the target. The rock pillars will even pass through obstacles to reach their target

How I'd defend against it: By channeling Raiton chakra through the ground using Method 2. Otherwise, I'd try and keep light feet on the ground, constantly moving to prevent getting skewered. Or, use an Earth technique to push myself up on higher ground.

(Doton: Yochi no Douyou) - Earth Release: World Shaking
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: 30
Description: The user will concentrate and release their chakra into the ground to create a small tremer that can result in harming the enemy target.

(Doton: Iwa Yado Kuzushi) - Earth Release: Stone Lodging Destruction
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Descripton: This technique allows the ninja to control nearby stone and rock. This can be especially useful if in a cave or a stone lodging. The technique can loosen the rocks and cause them to come raining down on whomever is trapped inside.

(Doton: Ganchūrō no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Rock Pillar Prison Technique
Rank: C
Type: Defence/supplementary
Range: Short/Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After performing the required hand seals Rat → Horse → Dog → Snake and they then create a large amount of rock pillars from under ground. They can then be controlled to surround their opponent and create a bamboo-like thicket of rock.

How I'd defend against it: this is a short/mid range Jutsu. If I can manage to maintain a long range Lightning technique barrage, the opponent can only dream of hitting me.

(Doton: Doroku Gaeshi) - Earth Release: Earth Shore Return
Rank: C
Type: Defence
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After striking the ground with their hands, the user creates a large wall of earth in front of him/her. The defence is not perfect though, since a hard or drilling impact can puncture the wall. Also, since this technique only guards frontal attacks, the enemy can easily attack from the side or even from above.

How I'd defend against it: ... I don't defend against this Jutsu. Rather, it's what my opponent would do if I was on the offensive. The counters are listed in the Jutsu.

(Doton: Doro Hōshi) - Earth Release: Mud Spore
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: This technique lets the user summon a river of mud infront of them. This technique can have water added to it to speed up the flow and increase its power.

How I'd defend against it: A very high level fire/wind combo would be able to dry up and harden his landslide of mid!

(Doton: Retsudo Tenshō) - Earth Release: Tearing Earth Turning Palm
Rank: C
Type: Offense
Range: Short/Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: After performing the required hand seals Boar → Ox → placing hand on the ground, the user causes the ground surrounding the enemy to spiral inwards on itself, burying them alive or crushing them. This technique is capable of causing quite a bit of damage to the area. This technique is much more damaging if used in rocky mountainous areas, or inside a cave.

How I'd defend against it: I'd channel Earth chakra through my body via method 1 to protect myself with armor. Or, if I could predict the attack, I'd simply sidestep to prevent falling into the sinkhole.

This is good. I like your thinking in general. A few excellent ideas. I like the idea of taking a hit. It's a mechanic that everyone refrains from using in our system but it can be quite rewarding if you perform is well.

However, the main purpose of the earthquake is to shake your balance and most will often insist that you fall on your butt which is too much meta-gaming in my opinion, but either way, you can use lightning to disperse the earth chakra and stop the shaking.

I don't think you could just sidestep something like this. :D

That's unfortunate, sometimes, taking hits builds character. I don't like people who "can't lose", they're the worst kind of RPer U_U

Then again, if one is skilled enough, they should be smart enough to not lose and know their limits. Just my two cents.

(Doton: Doryūkatsu) - Earth Release: Earth Flow Divide
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short/Long
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user will first perform the required hand seals Rabbit → Boar → Rat → Horse → Tiger → Snake and then by flowing concentrated chakra from one's palms into the Dragon Veins flowing underground, one can tear the earth apart, creating large chasms by firstly raising the earth in the desired location and then splitting that peice of earth through the center. The length, width, direction, and curve of the chasm are all up to the user. Manipulating the Dragon Veins requires fine chakra control, but if one has such skill, they can use this technique to divide the space between the enemy and their own team in two, destroy enemy camps or defences, and even to attack.
Note: This does not split the earth appart directly to cause opponents to fall in the fissure.

How I'd counter it: The best way to counter this jutsu would be to somehow stop the caster from performing the necessary hand seals, since there are so many and it can take some time to weave. If I were a samurai, which I'm not, I'd use laido to stop hand seals. Or, I could use a higher level jutsu to throw my opponent off balance. Since it doesn't make me fall into the fissure, I can keep mobile to prevent getting hit by it.

(Doton: Tsuchi Douyou no Hira) – Earth Release: Earth Shaking Palm
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: After performing snake hand seal the user slams their hand on the ground. The result is that the ground becomes heavily turned up with chunks of rubble popping out of the ground. This technique is used as a means to distract opponents to either create an escape or follow through with a surprise attack.

How I'd counter it: I wouldn't focus on this jutsu's offensive capabilities. Rather, knowing the nature of this jutsu, I'd be wary and think of the possibilities of my opponent's follow-up. I could use a high level wind jutsu to blow aside any rubble or dust that may distract me from my analysis.

(Doton: Ton'neru chika no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Tunneling Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short - Long
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user after performing the required hand seals Ram → Dog → Rat → Bird is able to create a wide tunnel in the ground, this cannot travel through rock though or anything with a high density. The large tunnel that is created allows the user to transport others without detection.
Note: The initial entry of the technique is short range.

How I'd counter it:If I place a large boulder or some form of dense material to counter the jutsu, the tunnel is rendered useless. Infiltration fail, lol

(Doton: Dāchiganshō) - Earth Release: Ground Bedrock
Rank: C
Type: Offensive, Supplementary
Range: Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: After forming the necessary seal Snake, the user creates two walls of earth and traps their target in between them.

How I'd counter it: Use some form of supplementary jutsu that can defend myself, preferable from method 1, since I'll most likely be trapped withing the walls.

(Doton: Hokoriheki no Jutsu ) - Earth Release: Dust Wall Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary, Defense
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user will manipulate their chakra releasing it into the ground and with a wave of their arm or through the application of a weapon can cause a small wall of dust particles and sand to rise up from the ground and thrusting forwards. This technique can be used to push back enemy targets or defend against thrown projectiles.

How I'd counter it: This is a defensive technique, no need to defend against a defensive technique. however, I suppose blowing the dust away with a higher ranked wind jutsu would help to dissipate it. So, if I threw kunai at my opponent, I'd follow up with a wind jutsu to increase the speed of the kunai and counter the dust wall.

(Doton: Iwa no Hogo) - Earth Release: Earth Shelter Technique
Rank: B
Type: Defensive
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user surrounds themselves with earth, taken from the immediate vicinity, in order to fabricate a formation of rock that is capable of protecting both the user and others in close proximity, if desired. Doing so, seemingly leaves the surrounding terrain unaltered, even when the quantity of earth used is enough to form a complete dome around multiple individuals as seen when Ittan used this technique. The user can also manipulate the resulting shelter to have openings in it so as to be able to observe outside, as demonstrated when used by Kitsuchi.

How I'd counter it: High level piercing Raiton. Also, if I manage to trap my opponent within the dome, they'd essentially be assisting their own suicide. Imagine being in the dome for defense, but you're trapped because the opponent managed to outmaneuver you. Then, the opponent could essentially launch a powerful jutsu into the dome, creating a contained prison of death :snick:

(Doton: Iwa Enchou no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Earth Dome Technique
Rank: B
Type: Defensive, Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description:The user creates a dome of earth, which protects them from external attacks. The domes shape is in a similar fashion to wood release: wood locking walls. That creates a half face dome.

How I'd counter it: The back of the user is open, so I'd use that to my advantage, flanking them. Or, use a jutsu that curves around the dome, rendering the defense ineffective.

(Doton: Doryūha) - Earth Release: Earth Flow Wave
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Mid - Long
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: After performing the required hand seal sequence Rat → Snake → Tiger the user creates and rides a wave of earth that can branch of to attack from a distance. The user can also use the technique to manipulate the terrain and trap the target by wrapping earth round their legs preventing them from moving

How I'd counter it: Use a large scale water jutsu to fight waves with waves. Or, I'd use an equivalent Earth technique to push my footing above that of the wave to protect myself from harm.

(Doton: Doro Ookami) - Earth Release: Mud Wolves
Rank: B
Type: Offensive, Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20 (+10 per reformed wolf)
Damage points: 10 damage per wolf attack
Description: A trap technique in which the user will place somewhere and is activated upon contact with the opponent's chakra. The user uses a scroll to lay the trap in which releases mud that forms into the shape of wolves that will attack the enemy target/s. Despite being damaged the wolves can reform which can keep the enemy occupied to allow the enemy make a getaway. (Can only create a maximum of 3 mud wolves)
Note: Takes one turn to set the trap up and wolves only last two turns

How I'd counter it: Wow, this is a cool jutsu... I'd use clones to distract the wolves and try to conceal my real body from them.

(Doton Kekkai: Dorō Dōmu) - Earth Style Barrier: Earth Prison of Magnificent Nothingness
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short/Mid
Chakra Cost: 20 (+10 chakra each turn the opponent is inside the dome)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After striking the ground with their hands, the user overturns the earth, causing it to rise up around his opponent(s). Then, by placing his/her hands against the dome, the user is able to drain out the chakra from the people trapped inside and absorb it into their own body. At the same time, the user will use their own chakra to spread throughout the dome. This allows the user to repair any damage their opponent(s) manage to inflict on the inside.

How I'd counter it: Ah, I know this one! If I were a Hyuuga, I'd detect chakra flow and points, and try to hit the dome at those spots. Otherwise, perhaps I could burrow underground and emerge from the outside of the dome.

Earth Flow Divide
And what about an earth master who can perform earth jutsus with a single handseal? The description you gave is generic for every single technique, since you can stop all techniques by preventing the handseals. Although it would work, it's not a technique specific defense. Since it doesn't make you fall into the fissure, you can use chakra in your feet to stay stable or you could use a stronger earth manipulation technique.

Tunneling Technique
Or you could use the fire tunnel technique to prevent the earth tunnel. If you had some kind of sensing to know where your opponent is moving while underground then you could direct the fire/lava tunnel at him and burn him alive.

Dust Wall Technique
Or you could use the wind and earth in a combo for yourself. Even though it's a defensive jutsu, it's range is mid, so with a mid ranged wind jutsu you could blow the dust wall at the opponent.

Earth Shelter Technique
I agree, but you don't need more than B rank lightning. C rank would make a hole while B rank would also continue towards the opponent as a C rank. However, this isn't a very large dome, it's merely a shield.

Earth Flow Wave
Yeah, but water is weak against earth so you'd need a 2 ranks higher jutsu to achieve any effect. You can simply create a big wall in front of the wave and force the opponent to smash into it with his own momentum.

I agree with the rest of them, since they're nothing specific and simple jutsus.

*takes notes and moves on the next set of techniques*

(Doton: Iwa Keiro) – Earth Style: Rock Trail
Rank: B
Type: Attack
Range: Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user slams their hands on the ground and giant rocks rise up and jag the opponent from underneath.

How I'd defend/counter: Seems like a standard Earth technique. Just gotta make sure I keep moving to prevent getting hit by the pillars. One thing to note is the mid range; by moving out of the range of the jutsu, it becomes useless. Standard Earth weaknesses apply here too.

(Doton: Musaborudzuchi) – Earth Release: Devouring Earth
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Long
Chakra cost: 25
Damage points: 50
Description: The user performs the Ram → Horse → Tiger → Rabbit → Snake and slams their palm on the ground. Instantly, the ground to the sides of the opponent take the shape of huge jaws and attempt to crush and stab him between them.

How I'd defend/counter: Again, this is a standard imprisonment jutsu. To protect myself from the stabbing motion, I'd counter with some form of method 1 armor (earth, lightning armor), or use a lightning technique to destroy the the clamshell.

(Doton: Tsuchi Kairō) - Earth Release: Earth Corridor
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short/Mid
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user will first perform the snake hand seal and then cause the earth in the surrounding area to rise up and over a target and create a cavern, imprisoning the target. The user can leave an opening to allow attacks to go in to strike down the trapped adversaries, or close it up completely to prevent escape.
How I'd defend/counter: Tunnel underground, or try and exploit the opening in the cavern if an opponent decides to leave one. If I were fast enough, I'd be able to get out.

(Doton: Arijigoku no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Antlion Technique
Rank: B
Type: Offense
Range: Mid/Long
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: 40
Description: The user performs the Ram hand seal and causes causes the ground and everything on and around it to be sucked in towards the middle of a large pit, much like the method an antlion uses to catch prey. Upon being dragged to the centre, the victim will then be sucked underground. There the victim, depending on how deep the user makes them sink, will be trapped and/or suffocated. The range of the pit is determined by how much chakra is put into the technique.
How I'd defend/counter: Maybe I'd use a lightning technique that requires me to channel my chakra through the ground,to stop the pit from flowing. If I was able to be caught in it, maybe I'd use a water/fire combo to turn the ground from mobile earth into hard, dried mud.

(Doton: Doryū Jōheki) - Earth Release: Earth Flow Rampart
Rank: B
Type: Defence/Supplementary
Range: Short/Mid
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: N/A
Description: By performing the Tiger hand seal the user then makes a gigantic rampart rise up beneath the user's feet, by shaping the ground and increasing the amount of earth with chakra. Depending on what the user imagines, the shape of the rampart can be anything from level ground to a steep, needle-like mountain. If the user increases the volume of earth too much, he can be forced to keep his chakra consumption down. The user can combine this jutsu with Water Style: Waterfall Basin Technique to create a waterfall.
How I'd defend/counter: This is a good technique to gain the higher ground. I'd use a high level Lightning technique in an attempt to destroy this footing.

(Doton: Doryō Dango) - Earth Release: Earth Mausoleum Dumping
Rank: B
Type: Offense
Range: Short/Mid
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: 40
Description: The user With chakra work and superhuman strength, lifts up the very surface of the Earth. The lump of earth is gigantic and, the destructive power is obvious, but even just the visual impact can be enough to make enemies lose their fighting spirits and run away. The ball of earth is then hurled it at his opponent, flattening everything in its path.
How I'd defend/counter: This seems like a slow technique. I'd use a high level lightning technique and try to split the ball of earth, preventing me from getting hurt. Otherwise, if it were too big to try and dodge, I'd defend with an Earth jutsu or some form of defensive/supplementary technique.

(Doton: Doryuheki) - Earth Release: Earth Style Wall Jutsu
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user will first perform the Tiger → Hare → Boar → Dog and then creates a solid wall of earth as a form of defence. Chakra is either converted to earth within the body and then spat out to form the wall or the user can manipulate pre-existing earth to form the wall. The earth then instantly rises up and takes form. The barrier itself is also coated with chakra, making its strength incomparable to that of a normal mud wall. Because of the earth's special characteristics, the wall is highly resistant against, for instance, fire and water. Hizuren Sarutobi spits mud from his mouth to perform the jutsu whilst Kakashi creates a wall composed of bulldog sculptures to box-in Pain.
How I'd defend/counter: Large scale elemental jutsu, or powerful taijutsu should be sufficient to break the wall.

(Doton: Iwayado Kuzushi) - Earth Style: Rock Lodging Destruction
Rank: B
Type: Offense
Range: Short/Long
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: 40
Description: The user performs the required hand seals Tiger → Rat → Snake and they then causes a cave-in by destroying the equilibrium that holds the cave together. Just removing a single vital stone throws off the balance of the cave, making it unexpectedly fragile and causing a domino effect that destroys the entire cave. The shinobi from Iwagakure use this technique in their pride tactic, luring several enemies into a cave to kill them all at once.
How I'd defend/counter: I'd first be careful to try and not tip the equilibrium of the cave, lest I suffer an untimely burial. I'd instead try and gather Earth chakra armor to defend myself should I be caught in this. Of course, such a technique as this requires that I be in a cave with my opponent; if we aren't in a cave, or we manage, in our battle, to create openings or destroy the cave, this technique is less usable.

(Doton: Yōdo Ranfunka no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Molten Earth Wild Eruption Technique
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user will send chunks of rock at the opponent and then using a fire style technique and cause them to explode on contact with the enemy.
How I'd defend/counter: I'd counter with a water technique at least a single rank higher, to diffuse the flaming rocks.

Question about this technique. Could I follow up with wind to make it even more lethal?

(Doton: Denki Iwabashira) - Earth Release: Electric Rock Pillar
Rank: B
Type: Offensive, Supplementary
Range: Short - Mid (Short for electric bolts)
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user will make a set of four hand seals and then will place their hand on the ground to create a pillar of earth rise up from the ground. This pillar is also given a electrical charge that causes electric bolts to emit from the pillar up to short range shocking any targets in the vicinity.
How I'd defend/counter: I'd use a powerful wind technique to insulate the electrical energy.

Question about this technique too. I can't use lightning to destroy the pillar, since it's already infused into the technique, right?

Too... much... earth... aaaaa. T_T

Antlion
Alright, but as you say, if you're caught in it you would only harden the mud and imprison yourself even worse. There's a cool fire technique that lets you jump into the air and then release a few fireballs. I'm unsure about the rank but I think it would be a good defense. You jump into the air as the antlion forms and then you harden it to make a safe landing.

Earth Flow Rampart
Honestly, this is just too huge to destroy with lightning, and to be honest it doesn't make sense to destroy it either. It definitely won't be used as an offensive technique but rather a supplementary. I would rather worry about some spikes or something from above you that this technique will force you to crash into.

Earth Mausoleum Dumping
Then how about piercing the opponent with an attack as he's lifting it up? It would stop his technique and most likely force the lifted earth to fall on himself.

Earth Style Wall Jutsu
Show me a taijutsu technique that can break this, other than the 3rd raikage exclusive techniques.
You must be registered for see images

In the Hiruzen version, yes I agree, you could punch it and destroy it although you wouldn't have a happy time with the debris, but the Kakashi one is too big.

Rock Lodging Destruction
How about actually doing exactly what the technique says. Throw a kunai at the vital spot and submerge with the ground and leave your opponent to die.

Molten Earth
Yeah you can.

Electric Rock Pillar
If you can destroy them before they completely form then yes, you can. Otherwise, once they form and become lightning charged, wind would be your best bet.

You weren't kidding with the amount of jutsu, senpai :mad:_@:

Also, is that an Akatsuki banner I spy? Woah...

And I apologize if my explanations seemed truncated or non specific. I'm still training in the other elements, C/D ranks so I can't really make counters to B/A/S ranks unless I generalize.

(Doton: Ukiwagan no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Floating Ring Rock Technique
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Long
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user uses the earth to create large floating rock cubes 2 meters squared to toss at the opponent. The rock cubes spin around the user, doubling as a protection against other attacks.

How I'd counter this: An Earth wall, or a piercing Lightning jutsu. Is high level taijutsu sufficient to destroy these cubes?

(Doton: Tetsu Keimusho no Jutsu) - Earth Release: Iron Prison Technique
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short - Long
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: After first performing the required hand seals Ram → Dog → Rat the user then places their hand on the ground and causing a circular arena to surrend the user with a total distane of 15 meters away from the user and the walls standing up to 4 meters high. If these walls are damaged in any way, they disappear in a puff of smoke.

How I'd counter this: I'd damage the walls, seems simple enough. If I was caught in this jutsu with my opponent, I'd definitely try and find a way out, or even, turn the jutsu against them by achieving higher ground and an advantage!

(Doton: Uitenpen) - Earth Style: Wheel Of Fortune
Rank: A
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Long
Chakra cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A
Descripton: A form of summoning where the user first takes out a topographical map that they can use to change any earth-based feature of the battlefield.
Note: can only be used once per battle

How I'd counter this: Since it's so random and up to chance, I'd just have to be prepared and react accordingly. Could I get an elaboration on this jutsu, senpai? Like, change earth based features into what? What are the possibilities?

(Doton: Dochūbaku) - Earth Release: Landslide Technique
Rank: A
Type: Offensive
Range: Mid
Chakra cost: 30
Damage points: 60
Description: The user will manipulate their chakra to create the earth infront of them to turn to a lose like quality and create a landslide that is directed towards the enemy target.

How I'd counter this: Try and move out of the landslide's range. I can tell, if the user has a high ground advantage, the potency of this jutsu increases. I'd use an Earth Jutsu to push myself to higher ground as well.

(Doton: Kujo Joushou Iwa Chuuseki) - Earth Release: Destructive Rising Rock Pillars
Rank: A
Type: Offensive
Range: Long
Chakra cost: 30
Damage points: 60
Description: This jutsu causes gigantic pillars of rock to forcefully emerge from the ground. This is a even greater scaled Earth Release: Rising Spikes and is large enough to impale a summoning technique.

How I'd counter this: Ouch. This seems very lethal. Since the jutsu is greater scaled, I'd focus on evasion, since this jutsu is probably too large and conspicuous to catch perceptive opponents by surprise.

(Doton: Chidōkaku) - Earth Release: Moving Earth Core
Rank: A
Type: Offensive, Defensive, Supplementary
Range: Short - Long
Chakra cost: 30
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user lowers or raises the ground in the surrounding area at high speeds, allowing them to create giant holes in the ground or avoid attacks. The size of the affected area as well as the depths that it is lowered to is up to the user and rasing earth can be done up to 20 meters tall creating a small cliff or they can create trenches that can be as deep as 20 meters. Other than being moved below ground relative to the surrounding surface the terrain is not altered, plant life and people retaining their same positions.

How I'd counter this: If the user tries and creates a trench, I could use that to my advantage and trap the user from escaping the trench with high level elemental jutsu, whether flooding it with water or burning the insides with fire.

(Doton: Dosenkiryū) – Earth Release: Earth and Stone Dragon Technique
Rank: S
Type: Offensive
Range: Short – Long
Chakra cost: 40
Damage points: 80
Description: The user after performing the required hand seals Horse → Dog → Bird → Ox → Snake will create a large dragon of earth erupt from the ground and direct it towards the enemy with devastating force. This
technique much resembles the Water Release: Water Dragon technique.

How I'd counter this: ... Is there a Lightning Dragon, by any chance? Not only would that be badass, it would be the perfect counter too, haha

(Doton: Kaido Shōkutsu) - Earth Style: Opening Earth Rising Excavation
Rank: S
Type: Supplementary
Range: Long
Chakra cost: 40
Damage points: N/A
Description: With the technique, the user can bring up something from deep within the ground. The result of which has the appearance and near size of an erupting volcano.

How I'd counter this: ... Volcanoes? Umm, a mixture of large scale water to stop the eruption, and wind/ lightning in conjunction to try and destroy the volcano.

(Doton: Yama Eikyō) - Earth Release: Mountain Smash
Rank: S
Type: Offensive
Range: Long
Chakra cost: 40
Damage points: 80
Description: The user creates two enormous rock formations that close in on the opponent from two opposing sides with tremendous force, smashing everything caught in between. Both of these formations are capable of dwarfing even the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path in size. This is one the most strongest Earth based techniques, standing as a testament to both this ability's destructive potential and its difficulty.
Note: Can only be used once due to scale of technique

How I'd counter this: Yeah... an opponent would have to be pretty desperate and try and pull this one. It's too big and slow (based on what we've seen in the manga/anime), and it's really only good on larger beings such as Summonings. It probably also leaves the user wide open..

Ummmm... I think that's the last it of it! Well, for method 2, anyway...

Yeah, isn't it cool? :D Don't worry, you'll have to get used to it soon enough, anyway. :)

Floating Ring
Well, in this case you'd have to match the damage points in order to destroy the rocks. However, since their power is split, you'd need less power to destroy only one. Depending on how much the opponent made, you can base your counter.

Wheel Of Fortune
Oh boy. This is hell of a technique. You can literally create everything. It's all up to you and your needs. You can lift up and re-model the whole battleground into your advantage. So, defending against it won't really work. You've seen what happened to Naruto. Multiple openings all around the place and he was captured in some caverns who knows how deep. You could always use a wide range lightning attack to stop the earth chakra and to prevent the jutsu from finishing. The same way you could use lightning to destroy whatever your opponent is up to. And one tip, if you see this don't expect some simple small scale change because there's more than enough earth jutsus for that. When you see this expect something big, because your whole battlefield can change in seconds.

Landslide
But what if you're already caught? You're sliding down towards a pit or whatever. What would you do?

Destructive Rising
Yeah, but seriously, lightning is your baby here. You could also blow some wind and shoot yourself into the air.

Moving Earth Core
Alright big boy, but the thing is about you. You're in the trench, 20m below your previous position, you have no where to go and your opponent is up, on the open. All he has to do is fill the hole with water, or create some spikes and you're done. What do you do?

Earth and Stone Dragon
There's a fire one if you like.

Opening Earth Rising Excavation
Yeah, a lid from any material would be good to stop this. However, you might expect this to be used against you by an opponent that has sensing and knows that you went underground.

You must be registered for see images

Mountain Smash
Not really, no. It's frequently used in the RP and people like it. It's actually not that slow. What I usually do is create the giant golem and have it stop the sides with his hands. :D

So that seems to be the whole list... What's next, senpai?
Oh, that's it? Alright, I got carried away. I never expected the list to end, to be honest. :D So, that's it for the method. I hope you have seen how little differences these techniques have. That's because they were sorted in the methods by similarity. These were the ones involving environmental manipulation. The next method are advanced conversions. It's similar to the previous methods so it shouldn't be anything new to you.

Method 3: Advanced Conversions

This method is just like the last one, however, it involves changing the structural foundation of the earth as opposed to where previously, we were just focusing our chakra into the ground to create/manifest entities or manage techniques. These techniques in this method involve channeling one's chakra into the earth and changing the substance to create mud, sand, gravel, etc. These techniques fall into a different category than the previous method because of the fact that it's changing the substance from pure earth to something more refined and almost different entity all together, however, still being considered earth.

Advantages of Method

Simply put, this method adds another level of versatility to the earth release element. Earth techniques are not limited to being solid rock hard entities. The techniques in this method entail manipulation of ones chakra and the earth for structural manipulation. Primarily creating mud or softening it to sand or gravel. The general purpose for such techniques would to give more complimentary properties such as adhesion, allowing for travel underground, or to disrupt one’s balance by lowering the amount of friction as a result.

Disadvantages of Method

Same rule of thumb applies as with the last method. I’m still on the side saying you’d need to be connected to the ground for these techniques as they involve changing the actual structure of the ground and is basically the same as the last method only, dealing with alternative version of earth release.

Any questions before we start?

...So essentially, this is an advanced version of Method 2, am I correct in that generalization?

Also, will we get bombarded with a list of 50+ jutsu again, too? haha

Other than that, I think I'm ready!

More or less, yeah. As said, this method is a bit more specific and involves certain changes thus why there's not a lot of these techniques, don't worry. :)

Now, what I want you to do is, dissolve a rock. Turn it into dust. Only by using your chakra. Points at rock, over there.

EDIT: Invite your friend.

Already done, sensei! And I thank you for accepting a dual training, I'm sure my friend will be most grateful!

*While waiting for the new student to arrive, I go to where sensei indicated. I pick up a sizable chunk and hold it in my hands*

Dissolve the rock?!

*I begin channeling my chakra through it. I visualize the manipulation of the chakra, and its flow through the chunk. I try and make it so that the chakra breaks up the rock, over and over again into smaller and smaller pieces. It takes considerable effort as I am not used to such an advanced form of shape manipulation.*

*after a moment, the Rock caves in at the top; I had managed to dissolve most of the inside of the rock into dust, although the exterior shell was still intact. I continue channeling my chakra, while sensei watches and we await the new trainee*

Indeed I am grateful. Thank you both ^.^

heads to the designated location to where Kotetsu had invited him to join in his doton training with Barney Sensei. He wondered whether this Barney would be as great as Kotetsu made him out to be .. or better than Reborn Senpai ..

Eventually he arrives to find Kotetsu doing something to a rock, his face screwed up with concentration, a bead of sweat forming on his forehead; Barney observing closely. Just then Kotetsu exclaims enthused that he had managed to dissolve the whole rock and turned it into dust.
:what:

It appeared he had gone to all the effort to dissolve the rock with his chakra.. what a waste of time.

Picking up a palm sized piece of clay (technically a weathered rock) that just so happened to be near his foot, L takes it and walks up to Kotetsu and Barney. He proceeds to crumble the rock between his fingers until it was near enough to dust.

"Okay done, see Kotetsu, that is an easy way to crumble a rock." Turning his attention to Barney, he continues. "Hey there Barney Sensei, I am L, nice to meet you. So are we proceeding?"

-Apparently not-

Barney was not amused, nor impressed. The rock L had used was not a 'real' rock and taking the easy way to do things was not making a good first impression apparently. So L found himself, 100 push ups later, holding a new, Barney approved rock, expected to turn it into dust.

Knowing Barney was not going to be mucked around twice, L decides to take it seriously this time.

He begins by circulating his chakra throughout his body, before molding this chakra into doton chakra. Afterwhich he channels this chakra down through his arm, into his hand and then into the rock it grasped. Inside the rock he lets his chakra circulate around it, visualizing his chakra weathering it away into dust as though it were water eroding the rock. Using his chakra he manipulates the earth to become softer and softer so it begins to crumble into smaller pieces, and these pieces into smaller yet, and into crumb size and so forth. Focusing his chakra more and more eventually his chakra had manipulated the rock's physical properties to the extent the that now in his palm rested a pile of rock dust.

Hoping he had pulled off this structural manipulation, nervous, L turns his attention to Barney ..

"Okay .. so ... so do we proceed now?"

. . . .

lol McRazor, I didn't know whether to call you Barney or Hashi .. so I went with Barney xD
I have a question ,

I am getting confused what is the difference between structural and nature manipulation? (if any)

Lol, well done both. Natural manipulation would be water, earth, fire, lightning and wind, while structural divide each of those into more specific sub-categories. For earth, that would be mud, dust, sand, lava or whichever.

Now that both of you have the dust in your hands I want you to revert the process. :D Use your chakra to connect all those dust particles and create a globule of mud. Make it sticky and then throw it at the tree. Let's see whose sticks better.

Seemingly impressed by L's and Kotetsu's performances, L lets out a sigh of relief and also begins to let the dust free ...

Taking a look at the dust in his hands, it seemed impossible that it would ever be converted into a globule of mud without the assistance of water.. it was so dry and .. dusty. Nevertheless, L would make it happen, being the competitive freak he is, he was going to make sure this dust turned into the stickiest god dam mud in the Ninja World.

Doton chakra already circulating through his body, L only needed to channel this chakra back down his arm, into his hand, and into the rock dust. It was obviously a lot more difficult this time because the particles were not connected together, so L had to channel his doton chakra into each individual particle. Once this had been done, L begins to use his chakra to manipulate the particles into fusing together.
When they have somewhat come together, L can freely circulate his chakra through the joined particles. He manipulates his chakra to compact the particles tightly, at the same time using shape manipulation to give it a rotund shape. He makes sure that he doesn't compact the particles too closely to prevent it becoming as hard as a rock, now what he is left with is something which can be comparable to dough.
Further using his chakra, he manipulates the 'rock's' physical properties by gradually softening it, at the same time slowly allowing the particles to become more free converting the 'rock' into a more liquid consistency, however maintaining a degree of thickness so that it is not truly a liquid.
Now that he had something that could pass as mud, the issue was making it sticky. Using his chakra to manipulate the mud into becoming slightly more 'liquified' but still making sure that the mud was thick enough, the mud becomes stickier.

Confident that what he was now holding was the stickiest mud any ninja was ever going to get, L uses Shape manipulation to make the mud take on the shape of a globule. He then proceeds to spy the tree Barney Sensei had chosen, takes aim and hauls the mud globule as hard as he can at the tree.

L then takes a look over at Kotetsu to judge whether his mud globule could possibly stay on longer than the little mud globule he had created that appeared to be sticking quite well on the tree.

:snick:

I see. I think everyone has different ideas though because what is 'state' manipulation? Because I had a Senpai and he said; convert your katon chakra into 'ash' using state manipulation (o_O ) Isn't that structural manipulation? haha

(If we're using my bios to RP, I'm actually going to switch to this one, lol )

"Kotetsu", having exerted his chakra to dissolve the rock, suddenly "poofs" in a cloud of smoke. Yu Narukami is revealed; he had transformed into Kotetsu's guise before he arrived at the training (looks: my avatar). He could no longer maintain the transformation.

He rubs the back of his head sheepishly "heh..."

Taking advantage of his Sensei's and fellow student's initial surprise, Yu quickly gathers up the dust particles leftover from his rock. He notes how L's mud globule was quite well shaped, and formed. It stuck, too!

Yu's eyes have a fire in them... The Will of Fire! He wasn't going to lose!

*Gathering the dust in my palm, I form a clamshell with my two hands, encapsulating the dust particles. Then, I apply a substantial amount of pressure to the dust, whilst channeling earth chakra through my palms to mix with the dust.*

*I visualize and recall the layered, structured order of earth. By advancing my earth manipulation to the highest degree, I cause the dust to start moving closer together, similar to how water starts freezing. As the dust particles become chunks, I visualize more shape manipulation once more, and combine it with advanced nature manipulation, making the chunks stack and layer, as if they were building blocks.*

*after a few moments, I open my hand. The dust had compressed into a solid, spherical rock! But I wasn't done yet! I then channel my chakra through this round stone, showing an adept level of chakra control. The rock turns darker, and begins to "melt" into mud. It looks like a solid chocolate bar that is melting*

*taking care not to turn the entire rock into a puddle, I stop channeling my chakra through. The result is a well made globule of mud that has both solid and liquid properties... It feels incredibly viscous.*

*i then look at the tree Sensei pointed to. I take a baseball player's stance, and make an incredibly melodramatic battle cry*

"AAAARRRGHHHH!!"

*I throw the globule with conviction, and it lands right next to L's globule. Feeling proud of my achievement, I then take a glance at L, who is intently staring at the two balls with his piercing gaze. It was clear that we were competing, malthough in a friendly way.*

*the both of us look on as the globules stick to the tree, slowly running down the trunk and leaving a streak.*

Seemingly impressed by L's and Kotetsu's performances, L lets out a sigh of relief and also begins to let the dust free ...

Now that both of you have the dust in your hands I want you to revert the process. :D Use your chakra to connect all those dust particles and create a globule of mud. Make it sticky and then throw it at the tree. Let's see whose sticks better.

Yeah, it's wrong, but I see where he's coming from. It's the same with earth and dust. Although earth can physically turn into dust, fire can't turn into ash but needs to burn something in the process which then becomes ash. But since you're spewing a cloud of ash it's unrealistic to believe that you have a chunk of wood in your mouth and that you spew fire onto it and contain it in your mouth while it burns out and turns into ash. Either way, you can manipulate your chakra to create stuff like that. You're altering its structure but in essence it's called shape manipulation. And this shape doesn't only count for it's size and whether it's round or cubic, but also to the material.

Now, both of you have done well and I like the way you're doing it. I don't mind if you continue like that, but I won't participate in your RP because it would take too much time and I have other students to take care off. Because of that, we'll do the remainder of the training like this: I will post the techniques like usual and explain them, their advantages, uses etc and I want the first one to think of scenarios where and how he could use the certain technique in an offensive way. The second one to post will do the reversed thing. He will try to act according to the scenario the first user created and try to defend. What this accomplishes is that it creates a sort of a small battle scene where I see your uses of the techniques. Do you agree?

Okay sweet as, thanks for the clarification.

That sounds like an awesome/fun way to proceed with this training. Just to clarify we can combine the techniques with other jutsu right?

But yes, I do agree sounds good.
