He is probably not going to die... whenever an important character dies in the manga Kishi always devoted almost one whole chapter to it meaning flashbacks, regrets, final words, impact on the others etc. he doesn't kill main characters off just like that without meaning! That's not his style! So either way the next chapter is all about Shikamaru dying or he just won't die - Sakura, Karin or Tsunade one of them is going to save him! My bet is on Sakura though, she is the one closest to him right now! Plus I am eager to see what she's capable of with that seal of hers!! It's time to see some action on her side, she doesn't fight so she's got to at least do some healing!!

First we have to see wether the series will go that far. Second Kurenai was really fodderized. The only fight that's shown of her was he against Itachi. Her part in the fight was to show how superior Itachi was when it came to strength and genjutsu.
Also showed how far sasuke needed to go to beat him. Third the reason she became pregnant was to give a better striving force for Shikamaru knowing he had to live to protect the baby.
