There has been NO indication of ANYTHING that Sasuke could have done for a significant increase in power. An increase that would put him on MADARA'S level of power. He cuts a branch down and all of a sudden, Sasuke is godly?
If I recall, the 5 kage handled 25 or so of Madara's susanoo who were at that level. And probably were stronger than Sasuke's...not that impressive.
Threads like these is why in the anime scene, Naruto fans are dubbed Narutards...the fanbase has bad rep.

Until now Sasuke had no reason to pull out the full body Susanoo. Things are at their grimmest, so Sasuke pulled out all the stops. Do you think EMS just gives the user a new look? This is the true power of the EMS, the Perfect Susanoo! This is the "new jutsu" Itachi was referring to that time.
