Link to Washington Post Coverage

I read there's one culprit, possibly another and 13 dead along with others being injured.. What do you think?
Best of fortune upon all afflicted, the dead rest in peace and the injured recover.

Btw, for people in the U.S., is this just recent for you or has it been a while since you first knew about it? Time difference is why I'm asking.

This bring one huge question to mind.... How were the military personnel at a Naval base 2 blocks away from the White House and 1 block away from a Marines Barracks completely unarmed and unable to protect themselves?

Why did they even need the police? They have MP's that are suppose to protect the area, what were they doing? Why didn't everyone just grab a rifle/pistol, guard every door into the building, and give the suspects no where to hide?

What is going on over there? How did 3 men managed to siege one of our important naval facilities?

One wonders.. I read on the Swedish news site that the personnel in the area were told to take cover. Anyway, if the culprit/-s is familiar with the base, maybe it would be easier for him/them to orientate it and so avoiding heavily guarded areas?

He was, the 3 people were civilian contractors. Still begs the question as to how the Naval military personal were unable to protect the entry ways to all buildings.

You have to understand that the units there are mostly ceremonial. For example, The Marines close to there are the 8th and I barracks where there are ceremonial guard. I can't speak for Navy units out there but it is also mostly ceremonial. The military units that can actually make an impact are guarding the POTUS. And I could be wrong but I don't think there are any MP's enforcement. It probably is given to DoD Police. Any base or post with strategic value have MP's.

About that - I read in the report that the security guards in the area told the around 3000 being in it, to run as fast as they could. I suppose any incident like this is hard to deal with. They didn't even know that it was only one person causing all this when it all happened.
