I'd think it would be reasonable to give zoro's sword the devil fruit.
So he can cut fire.....
Luffy should just focus on improving kings Haki to damage inanimate objects (like shanks) and use sea kings in battle.
Or maybe cause a schockwave of kings Haki like what wb did to ace's crew. Instead of a one that focus in a single point in his fist.

He's shown to be able to produce fire via his blades (a la Flying Dragon Blaze), so I think all he needs to do is see a bit more of Kinemon's techs and/or see the skills used in Wano, then there'd be no need for him to have his swords posses a DF.

I want another level of Haki.
In the East Blue --> Devil Fruits were super rare and were considered myths. Haki wasn't introduced or at least named.
In the Grand Line --> Devil Fruits were common but Haki was now rare.
In the New World --> Devil Fruits are just the normal now and so is Haki.
Something new needs to be introduced that Luffy has. The next level of Haoshoku Haki needs to be made and introduced. I don't see how far Busoshoku Haki can go since vergo had full body Busoshoku Haki and still got dealt with by Law and most pirates in the New World will probably have it. Not many people have Haoshoku Haki and only Kings or great people are meant to possess it.

I will post all my thoughts and contribute to the discussion (at last xD)

1. Hasshouken
If Luffy learnt to use Hasshoken his power would increase tenfold. Regardless of if his Haki was inferior : if he could use Hasshoken he could still injure his opponents. Due to his rubber body : if he uses it as an elastic band-like object he can amplify the shock waves to create something of a similar scale to Sengoku's. Luffy lacks attacks which have a widespread destrictive capability. Or attacks which can cause trouble for top tiers. And these moves would. Why else would Oda randomly introduce Hasshoken , the only known characters to use it now give Luffy a r!mjob so I wouldn't be surprised if they taught him (if he hadn't already mimicked it: he created gear 2nd and 3rd by mimicking and creating a variation of two different Rokushiki arts).
2. Gear stacking
We have already seen Luffy Gear stacking. However this took a huge toll on his physical health : If he could gear stack without extreme fatigue and with great control then he would be formidable. He could use a Thor-Hawk combination.
3. Gear 4th
There are two different possibilities.
#1:
By utilizing Hasshoken and creating a variation (through Mimicry (it's how he created gear 2nd . By mimicking Soru and creating a variation)) which would make him a living elastic band of destruction.
#2:
By Vulcanizing himself and hitting extreme temperatures via a red hawk technique or Gear stack he could liquify himself : allowing Him to take a free form. And therefore Shape shift different limbs into different objects (Like Ohms sword) he couldmake a Shield fist and a Air pressurized cannon hand or something like that.

5.Haoshoku Haki:
Luffy can learn to manipulate and master his Haoshoku Haki in more ways than just knocking out fodder. If he can use it to damage objects (like Shanks did to the Moby ****) then he would be fearsome.
That further proves why Luffy doesn't need Ace's df. Besides we wouldn't want to overcrowd the crew with fire users we already have Sanji and technically Franky and Nami with fresh fire and heat balls.
