You're confused. We didn't use chemical weapons.

What we used were defoliants - used to kill vegetation that the VC were using to hide and conceal themselves in. The problems arose because they distributed this stuff by the truck load to soldiers who were not trained in the handling of chemicals, wore little/no PPE (and were sweating like crazy - their skin was a waiting vector for exposure), and the chemicals were hardly packaged reliably.

So you're saying we didn't use chemical weapons but then you go on to call it a chemical. Even if they were initially used only to clear vegetation that's not where it stopped. Just look at pictures of what happened to people that had the chemical sprayed on them, you can't tell me that the US intelligence didn't get that information back to higher ups. At which point they made the decision to keep using it.

All I'm saying is that we shouldn't condemn Syria for something that we have/would do ourselves.

Believe only half of what you see. And none of it if it involves such controversial issues. Most of what you see as claimed "Agent Orange exposure" is not. It is not helped by the fact that you have whole populations claiming that everything from the mumps to snake bites were Agent Orange exposure to try and enact their world view through the media, trying to extort treatment from Americans, or just didn't know what was going on and figured it had something to do with all of the trees that suddenly died.

Honestly, I'd have just nuked the forest away where I found it pesky or used napalm where nuclear weapons posed too much collateral risk.

All I'm saying is that we shouldn't condemn Syria for something that we have/would do ourselves.

I don't think we should condemn Syria - a country in civil war - for exploring means of killing each other, either. It only comes natural.

There is, however, a functional and ethical difference between the use of a compound like Sarin and Agent Orange. It's little different than the distinction between Sarin and Round-Up.

Well my view on Syria is that we shouldn't intervene but let them fix the problem themselves. However, the ones against this would argue with me and say "If we don't do anything, many innocent lives will be lost." My response to that is: "But if we do intervene, then that will light the fuse of another World War occurring in which more than 10x as much lives will be lost than there are now. So it's not really something to think alot about, because it's something clear and obvious. Any type of war is bad, but the biggest war is the worst.

I just think it's telling that Obama... the Nobel Peace Prize winning president of the free world.... is still beating the war drums with the Secretary of State, Kerry....

And the shrewd former KGB officer from Russia, Vladimir Putin - who has thrown people out of office buildings for being political opponents... is offering a diplomatic resolution and telling our leadership to calm the **** down.

It truly does make me wonder if the is suddenly being embraced by this administration.

I mean... seriously... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
