How did people live without chakra?????

Either i'm just getting confused and going insane after reading the new chapter.....or there is something wrong with the chapter......the latter is very unlikely....so plz help me out here......I recall Madara saying tht the tree is only taking back what was rightfully its....According to Madara, ppl used to fight even without chakra before kaguya ate the devil fruit...........here the juubi is sucking the shinobi's chakra and if u don't ve any chakra u die......So how did the ppl before kaguya's times survive without chakra.....

Most likely it's because their bodies adapted to the presence of chakra and they can't live without it. Similar to how the extraction of a Tailed Beast kills it's Jinchuuriki.

They never had chakra for starters... = they dont NEED it to survive... after sages mom ate that fruit and won war chakra from the 'god' tree did spread to newcomers and sage of the six paths teach ppl how to control their new chakra state...

Maybe peoples life force is Chakra and they just didnt know how to use it before 1000 years ago...and everyone was like lee but just didnt know how to use their chakra and mold it to use ninjutsu

And all the great clans are just distant relatives to the sage lol

Everyone has chakra it is the force that keep like going, people use chakra for basic things like walking, picking things up, most juts dont utilize them in jutsu...like Lee but less tailjut-sy

it would make sense if those caught by the tree lost their ability to do ninjutsu or any kind of jutsu........then all those caught by the tree would become regular average ppl......
