That is a good point, but that, in itself, could mean that Madara's will was restraining Obito. He only took advantage of the fact that Nagato turned his back on the plan; in other words, he was used by Madara up until that point.

Guys those who say that Obito is just a mere pawn, you should also consider Sasuke's evolution. Sasuke was also first appeared to be a victim of Orochimaru but see what he did: after becoming strong enough, he absorbed Orochimaru and became even stronger through his snakes abilities. Isn't this a relationship between student- teacher in which the student proved more clever and was the one to get benefitted? Who tells you that it's sure that madara's trump card will have success? Didn't he try to sacrifice obito for his revival and failed while the latter became what the former always wanted? Isn't it an exact same case where the one who seems to be the victim proves to be more clever and eventually gets to be the one who gets benefitted?
