On this forum i'm a pretty well-renowned Itachi Uchiha hater. I couldn't stand his character, his personality, his abilities and most importantly his fanbase- I made threads about it constantly and most of them were based around the fact that Itachi was written to be too 'bland & perfect'- like anime jesus if he had the personality of a tree. I can actually admit...I was completely wrong.
WHY: I've been rereading the Uchiha Bros VS Kabuto fight and to have my least favourite character fighting my favourite character? It was a big deal! rereading the chapter though I noticed so much more and that all this time Itachi may have not deserved the hate I gave him. It began with this chapter here- Itachi as a kid actually frets, he shows weakness. Reminding us that he IS human, something Kishimoto doesn't do enough.
And then I started to read the Uchiha/Kabuto fight more...and not only does Itachi not act like the smug messiah badass his fanbase makes him out to be but he actually, has a sense of humour?
Honestly, I can't begin to describe how much of a difference it makes to see a character like this being light-hearted and human. It's why i've begun to change my mind towards him. Another note, I started to realise than Itachi shares a lot in common with my favourite character, Kabuto Yakushi. Kishi makes it very obvious that both are similar people. Used deceitful genius spies with huge strength who were abandoned by Konoha. The only difference is that Kabuto was born with nothing and no personality whilst Itachi was born a prodigy with huge responsibility. Both are incredibly interesting characters and honestly? They're basically equals. I was wrong.
Now it's still painfully obvious that Kishimoto does do "character of the month" and randomly hypes a certain character for no reason but I was wrong to say Itachi was just a walking plot device with powers. He's a smart interesting character with a sense of humour and although may have failed everything he set out to do- he had the best intentions but most importantly- he's human, even though you have to really look to see it- he is.
CONCLUSION:He's a cool character, I admit it.That said, I am no raving lunatic fanboy- this forum makes Itachi fans look like cancer. If you like Itachi because of his personality, background and design- you ARE an Itachi fan. If you like Itachi because of his abilities and the fact that 'Itachi solos' or 'totsuka blitz gg' then you are just an Itachi f*ggot. Don't make the same mistake I did, there's a difference. Numbers out.
