From the recent chapter, it has been confirmed that Obito, being the Juubi's Jinchuuriki, lost his Kamui Ability:
It would seem that being the Juubi's Jinchuuriki has its drawbacks, you gain tremendous power in exchange for the loss of another great power. I think the same thing happened to Rikudou Sennin.
The Uzumaki Clan has deep connections with the spirit world (eg. Shinigami) and like I said they are more "Priest-like" than "Shinobi-like" in all respects.
The Uzumaki Mask Storage Temple was modeled after a Kagura Hall found in Shinto Shrines were priests perform Kagura: a type of religious dance.
Today, Shrines usually perform Kagura both for honoring the Kamis and for entertainment purposes:

But the most ancient use of Kagura even before the establishment of modern-day Shintoism was Kamigakari or the possession of a medium by the spirit of the gods:
I believe that Rikudou Sennin, being an Uzumaki and the originator of Uzumaki Fuuinjutsu, had the power to summon and assimilate in his own being the power of Kamis like the Shinigami(s) and other divinities making him god-like even before becoming the Juubi's Jinchuuriki.
But like priests from other religions (eg Catholic Exorcists) only a few priests are able to fully attune themselves with the spirits as their mediums (Yorimashi) Rikudou Sennin being the original contractor of these Kami spirits was probably the only one among his kindred who can fully assimilate the soul of these divinities enabling him to freely channel their vast powers.
The Shinigami(s) and other divinities come from the spirit world:
The Juubi on the other hand is a Kunitsukami, or a deity native to the material plane:
The fully transformed Juubi is most probably several times more powerful than what we see now (even inside a Jinchuuriki) Rikudou Sennin, being a human priest, would require the power of a god/gods in order to defeat a god: The Juubi.
So it is my hypothesis, that along with Senjutsu, Rikudou used Kamigakari to temporarily become god-like himself that's able to take on the Full-powered Juubi, once the Juubi has been weaken, he used Fuuinjutsu to seal it and become its Jinchuuriki.
But like Obito, Rikudou also lost the power of Kamigakari after becoming the Juubi's Jinchuuriki, for having the Juubi inside him, he could no longer become the medium of the divinities he summoned when he fought Juubi.
