Greed looks like a tall, well-built and muscular man with dark hair, a pointed face and sharp pointed teeth. He wears the black clothing common among the shinobi, plus a black jacket with a white fur-collar and a pair of sunglasses. Greed has the a distinctive Ouroboros mark on the back of his left hand. Used to the maximum, Greed's Ultimate Shield ability turns him entirely black and metal-like and the two red lines that run all over his body are expanded all over his face, crossing his eyes.

As his name implies, he is a very avaricious character, who likes living in luxury, surrounded by powerful minions and beautiful women. He also has a habit of flipping people off. Despite his generally greedy nature, he is shown to care for his subordinates. He is notable among his fellow shinobi for his independence, which led him to betray his team and work on his own.
He covets everything that the world can offer, including money, women and political power. However, this also gives Greed a much firmer personality than his fellow shinobi that played into his desertion. This makes his described as "the only shinobi who has learned to think for himself. Being greedy, he also values his possessions more than he demonstrates it, and holds those who swear their allegiances to him in high regards, being seen kind and complimenting towards his underlings
In spite of his demanding personality, he his rather polite and chivalrous (he refuses to fight against women) and has a laid-back attitude. He usually offers bargains and equivalent exchanges to gain what he wants and he acts in a friendly (though sarcastic) way even towards foes. One must not be fooled though, he is bent on gaining whatever he has set his sight on, not taking "no" for an answer and fighting ruthlessly to obtain and keep it. When confronting people he dislikes, he becomes clearly insulting and bent on killing them, stating that he is so greedy that he wants their lives.

Greed was born into a rather rich and powerful family. However, as a child he lost his parents in a dreadful accident. Sometime after this, Greed ran off to follow his vices and achieve his own immortality so he would never have to die as his parents did. He made his home in Konoha where he grew up. He was orphaned and alone. However, he was found by Iruka Sensei and raised. While in the Ninja Academy he discovered he had a special ability when one day he was getting beat up outside of the school and the armour activated around him. After that incident he was never touched in combat again, besides of course his armour.
After discovering this ability, he trained more and more with Iruka sensei daily. By the time the Chuunin exams came he was more than prepared. During the exams, while inside the forest of death, he had a chance to save his comrades but chose the scrolls of their lives. Leaving them to die inside of the forest. Greed ended up succeeding in the Chuunin exams and passed with flying colors.
He went on to lead several small groups before becoming a Jounin.
During his Jounin years it was decided that Greed was only allowed to go on mission that required single man cells, due to him having to many casualties on the battle field. He was a good leader however when it came to deciding between the mission and the sake of a comrade his always choose the mission. Never before had there been a shinobi who cared so little for the life of a teammate and more so for the sake of the mission.
