Was it bad writing that Tsuande and the Gokage survived?

There's been quite an uproar of late over how Tsunade and the Gokage managed to survive. Is it bad writing from Kishi to make them survive or was there another purpose?

I don't really mind their survival, I just have trouble discerning the purpose of it. Yeah, their survival will boost the moral of the Alliance and all that but they can't really do much with Madara fully focused on Hashirama, interfere at your own peril, and Obito rendering all of their abilities useless. Maybe they can be of use, not sure how so but hopefully they can be, though I doubt it.

EDIT: In how they survived, I just roll with it. Senju DNA appears to be the answer to everything, allows Danzo to have genjutsu reading Sharingan in his arm, live momentarily after being stabbed through the heart etc. And he's not even an actual Senju.

what I mean is that... they made a promise to Naruto
that they'll defeat Madara but they lost.
that's a bit disgraceful to their titles.

it's been hinted a lot of times that she won't die.
Obito survived being crushed by a huge rock.

I believe that Tsunade's role
is to assure that Naruto will be the next Hokage
so she won't die, maybe she'll pass the title to Naruto
just like what Hiruzen did to Minato
