Premise: As we all know by now, the Sage, on his deathbed, entrusted his will to his two sons. The Elder Son believed power and Jutsu were the keys to peace, while The Younger Son believed love and understanding were the keys. Because of their mutual understanding of creeds, The Sage decreed that The Younger Son would be his successor.
However, there are a couple holes that need to be filled, giggity, namely "what occurred that night and how did it influence the Uchiha clan down the road?". To delve further into this mystery, we have to assume that The Elder Son's eyes were a biological prototype of the finished deal (which is the leading theory on the matter).
Note that these eyes you see are NOT the Rinnegan; they have pigment around the eyelids and have spiraled irises. It's a unique, never-before-named eye. It's the eye that develops when half the power of the Sage is passed down to one shinobi.

It is probable that The Elder Son synthesized the Sharingan before raising his clan; Prime Uchiha's not sporting the similar traits as The Elder Son's eyes (even disregarding the colored pigment) points to the Sharingan being a direct, genetic manifestation that would influence the rest of his descendants.

This fueled what would be known as the eternal conflict between the Senju and Uchiha. The manifestation of the Sharingan gave The Elder Son more power (what his original creed stood for). His perspectives on power and Jutsu were based on the influences of the Juubi.

. The problem is, it couldn't just be enough that The Sage passed away by himself that his Sharingan manifested, nor could it have been a difference in affairs to cause it. Uchiha member Sasuke endured his entire village slaughtered and witnessed it under Tsukoyomi, but never did develop the Sharingan that early.
