I know this might seem crazy to some of you but I believe Ino is one of, if not the best, strongest developed female characters in the entire manga. I know Kishimoto has an overall bad track record when it comes to female characters but Ino is actually pretty good when it comes to being a secondary character. This will be a long thread most likely but will come with manga pages for information as well. Let's start with part one:

Ino is portrayed as a ninja whose main interest are her looks and sasuke. While she still shows some fondness of sasuke, she has willingly sacrificed her looks if it meant she had the chance to win.

Even though her doing this is portrayed to be out of anger, it's actually a trick in order to win the match between her and sakura.

Note this: Ino was the stronger and more capable ninja at that time. Naruto is the only reason that match ended in a tie. That may seem to be a fanboy comment but it's true.

After the match, Ino woke up before sakura and acknowledged her strength and they rekindled their friendship.

Due to Ino being a side character, she didn't receive much development until part 2. At the beginning of part 2, she and the rest of K11 gained development through the 2-3 year time skip. With sasuke no longer in the village, she had more time to focus on her skills as a shinobi. She used this time to become a medical supporter of team asuma. Sadly, her next piece of large development is at the time of Asuma's death where she tries to use her skills in the medical field.

To no prevail, he was doomed from the start, prompting him to say his goodbye to his team. His words to Ino showcase her determination to keep her friends safe.

After the funeral and a few days of planning, team asuma sets off to avenge their teacher by killing the zombie duo. Walked away from the village like complete bosses at that :scorps:.

With the help of naruto and kakashi, they gain their revenge. Ino's next piece of development comes during the war in order to protect naruto. In this war arc, Ino gains a LARGE amount of development. It begins with the revival of asuma as a weapon to bring down the alliance.

Having discussed the possibility of fighting him before, Ino and her teammates prepare for their final meeting with Asuma. They proceed to defeat him and end up gaining new confidence and a proper farewell from their sensei.

Ino shows development in her skills, which saves naruto and his group from the ten tails assault later. I'm going to do some fanboying for a few sentences:

Ino took control of a GOD. I know that she technically took control of Obito, she had help from Hinata, and it was only for a few seconds, but in the end she still accomplished a major feat that gets severely underplayed and unacknowledged. And the best part of this is the fact that did it not only once, but TWICE. The girl deserves way more respect than what she gets.

Back to the development, this is Ino's development for this segment.

Ino's next piece of development comes from the destruction of HQ and the death of her father. This is a large amount of development because it was the a family bond that was probably as strong as the one of Naruto and jariya.

Theses four pages show the growth Ino had within those few, final moments with her father. Showing that she has become a stronger ninja, she pushes forward! Oh yeah, she took control of the GOD and Obito again. :leaf:

Her next piece of development is shown when she is needed in order to stop the bijuudama the ten tails created. She manages the use her father's jutsu to relay information to the ENITRE shinobi alliance.

Her final piece of development comes from her newest combination attack with shikamaru and choji. Once again, she shows how far she has come.

.......dat yo-yo though

I hope you all enjoyed my perspective and the development of Ino's character. Like i said, kishimoto did an overall bad job on the females of the story but i believe Ino is an exception, as far as SECONDARY characters go. :hint: (sakura.....)

I actually like Ino a lot! I agree with what you said; I think she was especially great during their fight with Edo Asuma. But I have two problems with her development:

First, why does she still love Sasuke, anyway? He was her crush when they were kids, okay, but why would this crush develop into love when she didn't even see Sasuke after he left until the war?

Second, it felt like her power-up using telepathy on the whole Alliance without even a nosebleed/much strain and any device was kinda random. Inoichi had more trouble and he was stronger (I get it that the new generation is supposed to surpass the previous one, but Inoichi was still much older and more experienced).

well she didn't have as many people to talk to as he did but when you never know how strong you are until that's the only choice left. she was struggling though. on the sasuke part, imo she really doesn't love him but how would you feel if someone you cared about romantically became a criminal that people wanted to kill.

Well, she did think of Sasuke when Inoichi told her about how she grew to symbolize a flower meaning love. This kind of baffled me :mad:_@:

At least Sasuke didn't try to kill her..

well think about it like this, she did not really have anyone else to love since she is a side character, might as well keep it one guy. you can't really count sai.

Bold: that's from our perspective, what about in-universe? And call me weird but I kinda like the idea of Ino ending up with Choji O_O

i don't mind that idea, she is warming up to him but that might mess up future ino-shika-cho formations lol

I totally agree she is the Top 3 best developed female character which is one of the reasons she's my favorite.=D Also she only needed Hinata to pinpoint the location of where they are and to tell her what's happening. So she did that on her own.

I really like Ino. She has a nice personality and an interesting fighting style. But, combat prowess aside, she didn't really develop as a character outside of the Chunin Exams Arc. She went from a snobbish b***h to a nice girl who formed a tight bond with her teammates and grew-up enough to sort things out with Sakura. Once those were done though, that was it.
