So, I had a little theory I wanted to share about the recent chapter and how rasengan was able to pierce Obito's defense. It may be obvious to some and may not be to others, that being said bare with me. :dunno:
As most of us know, chakra is the molding of physical and spiritual energy found in one's body. So if Naruto's normal rasengan outside of sage mode is formed using physical and spiritual energy, this can be considered a "standard" or "regular" ninjutsu.
However in sage mode, the user will begin forming a chakra variant, in other words "senjutsu" chakra. Senjutsu chakra is similar to "regular" chakra combining both spiritual and physical energy, however there is a third energy used to create senjutsu chakra. This third energy is nature energy.
When the complete balance of nature energy/physical energy/spiritual energy is formed, it creates "Senjutsu" chakra. This brings me to the main point now.
Rasengan is created using shape manipulation and chakra control. It's a physical creation of the spiritual and physical energy found in a shinobi's body. So what if the Naruto adds in a third energy to his rasengan? This third energy being nature? Thus creating a perfect balance of three, and creating a "Senjutsu" rasengan variant.
His rasengan is no longer formed from just "regular" chakra, it's now being created with "Senjutsu" chakra. This is why Obito was hurt by a "Senjutsu" Ninjutsu. This is why Naruto's rasengan in sage mode is a "Senjutsu" ninjutsu, and for those wondering how Naruto's rasengan could hurt Obito. This is how I would best describe it if I were Kishimoto, and it makes the most sense to me in my mind.
