Clearing up the "new generations surpassing the old" quote

Many people take this quote as meaning that the newer generations will be more powerful than their formers but that's not the case.

The quote actually is talking about morals, explaining that each generation will strive for peace and harmony more and more.

Actually it means both, Jiraya noted that Naruto would surpass him and the Fourth Hokage, both of his predecessors and Naruto wants to surpass all four Hokage.

And both interpretations have been used with them saying that Naruto would be stronger then them and that he would succeed where they failed.

Another example is that Konohamaru wants to be stronger then Hiruzen.

Genes weaken by generation so the special traits of a clan weaken as a result, with the odd exceptions.

Itachi and Neji haven't got a future. :S

As I said, there are exceptions but the general rule of the thumb is that power dilutes.
