Sasuke, Naruto, Rock Lee, Neji, Shika (no particular order, settle down Naruto fanboys lol)

But he lacks certain credentials that allow him to be Hokage in my opinion.

1.Determination/Commitment
Shikamaru is the laziest person in the Narutoverse, he get's serious when the time is needed for it. But the position of Hokage means hard work in so many different ways. (Paper work, meeting with other villages, making sure that your village is civilized and undercontrol-something Tobirama exceled in to me) Something I feel isn't fit for Shikamaru's personality the same way it wasn't fit for Jiraiya.

2.Power
Let's be real, Shikamaru is extremely smart but in a world of Susano'os, Bijuu Dama's, Kamui's, Mokutons, his power level is pretty low. Being smart can only get you so far as a shinobi because Shika can't beat Naruto, Sasuke, Nagato, Madara, Obito, Hashirama, Kakashi, Guy, Lee, etc. and he's arguably smarter than all of them. Notice I didn't put Minato, Itachi, or Tobimara because I don't believe he's smarter than them. But anyways picture another Pain like invasion, Naruto could go Bijuu mode and easily provide Kyuubi chakra to the entire village while protecting them (something very desirable in a Kage) but Shikamaru would waste time strategizing against an opponent that is WAY beyond his power level. We all saw how Shikaku's "Master Plan" worked out against the Juubi. Such EPIC fail. Hell when it comes to power Sasuke is way more fit for Hokage. The only things stopping Sasuke is his selfishness, attitude, and criminal background. Shikamaru has always been a little overrated imo.

All these threads stating that Shikamaru is more fit for Hokage than Naruto (the very ninja that saved Konoha from Pain, and the same ninja that pretty much saved that war for the shinobi alliance) are very disrespectful. Just stop, stop it.

well the way i see it is this;
the fourth was hokage but was hokage that didnt do any paperwork or formalities. he was there for power. the third was in control of all of the villages paperwork and etc.
i see it playing out like that in the future, with naruto and shikamaru.

Yeah I agree, he may technically be the smartest out of all the Konoha 11 but having Shikamaru becoming Hokage would be the worst scenario ever...He does not have the strength physically to protect the village from major threats.

Shikamaru > Itachi, Minato, and Tobirama considering intelligence. Not by much though. But yeah, he's not powerful enough. He doesn't lack a huge amount of determination--only a little bit.

A kage isn't by definition the most powerful pawn on the chessboard.

Most people elected Kage are powerful, and in that regard yes he isn't quite there (yet) but let's say for argument sake neither Naruto or Sasuke would forfeit their claim to the title and get stuck on a stalemate, they then both agree to let Shikamaru take up the role. He'd utilize them and the rest of the village better than Naruto or Sasuke on their own.

He might not be able to stop Pain by himself but he'd use his pawns better than Tsunade managed to do, which was.. I can't even remember but I think she didn't give any orders and focussed on healing.

Having said all this, it doesn't mean Naruto or Sasuke wouldn't make great Hokage's on their own but while both of them have the power they lack the mindset and are both too selfish. It's like kids wanting to be a cop but have no idea of the responsability's etc.

She only became Hokage because of Naruto and his ability to sway people's hearts, that fodder Temari stated is needed trait to become Kage.

That's what I expected out of Shikamaru, but one fodder that has been on his d*ck the entire series says he could be a good Hokage and the whole base hops on the "Shikamaru for Hokage" bandwagon.
