Everything you've seen in the manga Post bell test is a lie, it was all Kakashi's genjutsu, upon seeing team 7 he is reminded of himself, rin and Obito in Minato's team, and he just wanted too know what the world would be like if his best friend was somehow still alive.

Kakashi fails team 7 because let's face it, you don't pass a team that sucks that hard.

Naruto works at the Ramen bar, as ramen guys assistant.
Sakura goes to work for ino in the flower shop.
Sasuke re-enters the academy, as he is determined to stop Itachi, but Itachi returns under a new name and explains everything to Sasuke and they live happily 4 eva.
