I don't get it. I mean I know he's not the strongest character there is, but I personally believe he doesn't deserve all the nastiness. But perhaps that's not why he's constantly being picked on - as a character, that is. After all, he has no background and all.
Maybe it's just me, but I think Kiba himself would make a pretty interesting character if it wasn't for kishi's habit of not giving certain characters enough character development. U_U

Kiba was born into the Inuzuka Clan, his dad abandoned him and his mother is really intense and scary. He was given Akamaru as a pup but his mother forced them to stop playing and to learn to fight. Kiba and Akamaru basically grow together and Kiba has many personality traits similar to that of a dog. People tend to forget that the character is specifically written to be hot-headed and loud. Naruto annoyed him back in the academy because he was a show-off and has slowly grown to respect Naruto and become aware that he is somewhat jealous of him- but enough to be his friend.

Seems like enough background to me, but all the passerby haters just look at his lack of sharingan susanoo senju DNA and abuse him :')

Either way he's a seriously cool character.

I don't hate his cocky personality; I actually think he is a pretty cool character. However, I would like to see him use other moves beside Gatsuuga. Kiba is like one of the most undeveloped characters... seriously what is an extra head going to do?

Reasons I have seen include...

A poor clone of part one Naruto.

Being hotheaded and reckless, it's not a bad thing in itself. But when it's done in a way that poorly portrays them then it is. Kiba's brash nature and words are always given no point. He comes across as a bragging and whiny character who has not matured since he was introduced.

It can't be said that he's no longer arrogant and a jerk since his defeat at Naruto's hands. Because, come Shippuden, he hasn't changed at all.
He's still arrogant: "You can't hide from my nose!" or "Deal with Madara until I get there".
He still makes rude comments on people's faults or habits: "Man Shino, you're hard to understand. Talk like a normal person."
He still attention-seeks: "I'm gonna be Hokage! Dude, it anyone listening?"
His pointless comments that have no meaning: "If I kick enough arses I might even end up Hokage!" or "I almost peed myself".
He still jumps in without thought.
Still runs his mouth off and can't even back it up.

His only attacks are the same spinning ones he had since the Chunin Exams. Even the giant dog just spins. In short, people find his attacks boring. No technique development to go with his lack of personality growth.

Kishimoto's treatment of him gives readers the impression he's a joke character. The Butt-monkey, if you will.
Saying he'll kill Sasuke, that he almost peed himself because of Jubi, the "I'll be Hokage", Sai saying "even your dog is smarter" and Kiba losing his cool (as he did versus Naruto's taunts), "I marked you as my rival ("Idiot thinks he's Naruto's level") and so on.

At least you've given legitimate reasons towards not liking the character, whilst I disagree with you at least you actually explained why you dislike him rather than most people who just write him off for not understanding the character at all or the fact he doesn't have triple sharingan susanoo wood style god powers.

See well that's just nasty. No reason for such hatred towards a fictional character who has barely impacted the manga at all. It's not as if Kiba actually does anything plot-related that makes people dislike him- it's just people don't understand why he's as headstrong as he is.

He's an awesome character IMO.

People don't like him mostly because he is weak.
Power levels considered as what makes a character a good by many.
I just don't like his character that much; he is too loud and arrogant to me; also way too simplistic. I don't like his attention seek; it comes in annoying ways...My faves are Lee and Neji; they are not power houses so im not biased for his power levels; but they are still stronger than Kiba lets just say i am also a Tenten fan; it is not that he is "fodder", he does not seem that likable to me. But he is not at the bottom of my list of faves either.

Just because someone's giving the reasons, doesn't mean they support them.

What two lines were they.
Shino is my favourite. No need to put Kiba and Sakura down to make him better. He already is. I kid, but I hope you're not thinking that's the only reason people hate. Kiba and Sakura are bad examples, there are valid reasons to not like them.

Another reason for Kiba hate is because he marked Naruto as his rival. People hate him for "believing he's Naruto level", not understanding that making someone your rival does not mean you think they're your equal.
