Hey guys, there is one thing I want to ask you about Obitos Kamui.
We know that Obito likes to send parts of his body to the Kamui dimension when he is about to get hit right? Kakashi explained that really nice here, that he avoids attacks in that way that he sends parts of his body to the Kamui Dimension.

- -

For example, here in this fight against Fuu and Torune - -

At mark 1:30 he sends a part of his head to the Kamui dimension because a Kunai is about to hit him, and because of this he can't hit Fuu.

My question is, why is he not able to hit him? He only sends a part of his head to the Kamui Dimension, not his hand. His hand stays in the "normal" World right? And since Fuu is in the "normal" world, where Obitos hand is, he has to be hit by that punch. ... Did I miss or forgot something about his use of Kamui?

Its part of his condition, he cant physically touch anybody while he's intangible, since his kamui is automatic it makes for hitting someone impossible because his body is still "evading" them technically.

That's not the right way to think about kamui. Obito isn't "intangible", he sends the part of his body which is about to be hit to the kamui dimmension. The other parts are still in the real world. He should be able to hit them, but apparently he can't hit anything when a part of his body is in the kamui dimmension. Kamui really doesn't make sense.

It has never really been explained why, but if part of his body is intangible, he cannot physically touch other people. I think it is an automatic response of his jutsu that he is unable to control (like Gaara's sand defense). If he is about to make contact with another person's jutsu (or more likely something laced with their chakra) then his body automatically makes that part of him intangible. I think Obito has to actually consciously activate and deactivate his intangibility. When it is active, though he is pretty much untouchable. This is probably why he has an overall time limit to his ability and why when he lost control after Rin died, he couldn't touch anything until he actually thought about what he was doing.

Kamui is a mode that once activated allows obito become "intangible". If obito wants to attack then it turns off automatically but if he is about to be hit then it turns back on as a priority to save him. He doesnt send the parts to the dimension, kamui does it for him.

Whether Obito does it or the Kamui itself, it only sends parts of his body that are about to being hit to the other dimension, so the bodyparts that are not being send to the other dimension has to stay where there are. ... It would perfectly make sense if Obito always has to send his whole body to the other Dimension, but as being said above, only certain parts are being send there. ... :erm:

No, as I said kamui is a "mode" where obito's entire body becomes intangible, anyone that tries to overlap & make contact with him just goes right through.

Yes I know that already, but Kakashis explanation loses its sense than, because he says that only parts of his body is being send to the Kamui Dimension.

I know what you mean and I understand that he becomes intangible, but still, his other body parts just has to stay were they are because they are not being send to the Kamui dimension. ... Damn that's some complicated shit right there.

Basically the simplified version is that he cant make any contact while he's intangible, like a ghost. Kakashi was just explaining how obito is not really becoming intangible but rather sending parts of his body to the other dimension to make it seem so. In this context kakashi's explanation works.

So in other words, It hasn't been explained why his whole body becomes intangible. But let's just go with it, he just becomes that way when Kamui is being used. ... It's just the way it is than.

It doesn't bother me, but a explanation WHY his whole body becomes that way would still be nice.

Yes & I too would like an in-depth analysis of how kamui works but I doubt that will happen :(

Logically Obito should have smacked the dude in the face as for why he didn't who knows? the move was probably retconned, Back then all we knew was that he had to materialize his body to attack or warp you, the whole sending separate body parts thing was introduced like 200 chapters later.

Thats just how Kakashi understud kamui, not how obito said it works, der myt be more to it than we've seen. Kakashis undastandin is just by observation not facts from obito. Maybe u wld get to kno more aba Kamui later
