last time when i tried 2 use chopstick in a restaurant it was a nightmare.
except me every one was eating their food.
bcus they got their regular fork and spoon and i tried 2 experiment wit chop stick.

I had to teach some of the guys how to use them when we were in Korea. Most Americans don't have the muscle groups developed to really make proper use of them, though.

The best analogue I've found to use with Americans is a pen/pencil. Your 'lower' stick is simply locked in place - then you hold and use the 'upper' stick just like you would a pencil. A lot of people try to squeeze their hand together - and it doesn't work too well.

I find them kind of elegant to eat with compared to our standard of fork and spoon... but that kind of depends upon what's being eaten....

I do, with a few years of practice, but still find it hard eating noodles with them, though it works.
I don't think I'll ever try pickpocketing someone with them though!

One of the funniest things I ever saw was when I was in Korea, and we stopped by the local KFC. Culturally - it's unclean to eat with your hands... and while they've adapted that, somewhat, to the era of regular hand washing and western foods, it was hard not to openly laugh as some of them stuck to tradition and were eating fried chicken with chopsticks. ... or... were trying to, bless their hearts...
