Why did Obito turn into a snake?

It has something to do with being a jinchuriki of the juubi I guess :dunno: It is hinted though that the sage had a similair appearance

The juubi is nature energy and minato said he's trying to control his body while he looked like a snake
I think it's like kabutos

It's probably something to do with sage mode/rinnegan, after all Orochimaru's goal was to become like the sage of 6 paths and he turns into a snake all the time. Maybe Orochimaru's snake-like abilities came from his experiments to become like the sage.

I thought it was more wood-style related. That is he looked like a tree root growing.
