We all know that Zabuza and Haku's deaths helped create Naruto's ninja way. But there's more to it which is actually quite clever of Kishimoto...you know how Naruto's greatest power is his capability of understanding people? This didn't just come out of nowhere, he never empathised with Sasuke or anyone else before the Zabuza mission. It's not just from his past as the 9 tails kid- it's the fact that Naruto saw a different side to someone who was supposedly his enemy. As he says at the end of the arc, "I actually quite liked them!"

On his first proper mission Naruto learnt to empathise with people, good or bad and see different points of view. Without Haku and Zabuza's sacrifices to protect and avenge each other, Naruto would've never gone onto become the ninja he is today. Gaara would still be the psycho jinchuuriki, Neji wouldnt have died free, Sai would still work for the Foundation, Tsunade would not be Hokage and Nagato would've killed everyone in the Leaf. It's this understanding that will also eventually create peace in the Ninja world.

This is why Zabuza and Haku are two of my favourite characters. The seemingly pointless and trivial first arc may seem boring but it's pretty much one of the most important moments as it forms the entire point of the story. Love this.

I agree! Zabuza and Haku made his goal less about "Being the Hokage to be acknowledged!" and more about protecting those he cared about.

But him being able to see the better side of people, I never looked too closely into that.. I guess Zabuza and Haku did give him that, sorta!

That arc was my favourite...

Great character developement...

Great character's Badass moments (Zabuza, Haku and Kakashi)

The best DEATH (zabuza kills gatou with a kunai in his mouth and then he dies next to haku)

And yes i agree with oyu

You mean more about "Changing the system".

I recall Haku informing him to gain power not to become the Hokage and have people look at him with respect, but to protect his loved ones. Something he DOES say a few times in part 1.

They were good characters and part of the reason that I am disappointed that Kishi didn't make more arcs with one time villains like them that don't have a story that spans the series.

They really started the tradition of villains having good qualities.

Haku is a > shinobi than Naruto. If Naruto is to the village as Haku is the Zabuza, then Naruto will be the best hokage ever.

Agreed. In my opinion it's probably the worst arc in the anime but the amazing final episode is so beautiful. Zabuza has the best death in naruto second only to Konan's.

And to that one guy that disagrees, mention one person Naruto showed empathy for before that mission. He was a brat who didn't understand others. In every single arc in part 1 naruto saves somebody with his empathy. (Neji, Gaara, Tsunade,

No they didn't

Explain to me one time that Naruto ever empathised with another character before that mission. That's why he disliked Sasuke and other people so much, he didn't understand them.

I'm surprised so many people like that arc, I think it's crap other than the last episode, I actually recommend people skip it tbh. That's just me though.
