[Discussion] Misconception: Shanks and Mihawk are definitely equal

Nah, if Oda would to that it would be a slap to the fans. Seriously ever since Mihawk said, "Surpass this sword, surpass me" and Zoro said he would never lose again, their last fight is got to happen, it's like fate.

I see the point in this thread was to ask why Mihawk is strongest swordsman and yet Shanks is stronger or equal to him(Mihawk) but he uses a sword, u should know not everyone who uses a sword is a swordsman in OPverse. Swordsman are those pple who use swords as their core/base of fighting and or have actually been trained in the art of the sword.

anyway if they battled Shanks would win due to feats and plot but Mihawk would difnetly give him a run for his money.

No it wouldn't, it would be a cruel twist.

You can't promise to not die. and by killing the murderer of you master you've also surpassed him in a way. Besides I can't really see how a Zoro vs Mihawk fight would work out. They've spend 2 years together and I know they're both competitive but would they just meet on the end of the grandline somehow just before going to raftel and have a match ?

I doubt Mihawk would take orders from the WG to hunt down the SH's since he turned down fights multiple time in people he took no interest in. After spending two years with Zoro I doubt he would be willing to crush their dreams at the last moment.

Only thing I can see happening is that BB's crew would be there till the end for the final fight for Pirate king, his strongest swordsman is Shilliew and he is bound to fight Zoro. But it would be a stupid final fight if Zoro already is the strongest swordsman.

I think Mihawk<Shanks but Mihawk is the strongest swordsman because Shanks probably uses a pistol as well as his sword.

Mihawk is still above the admirals IMO

I made a theory suggesting that Zoro will defeat Mihawk on an island with all the SH's watching (similar to Barratie as most of the SH's watched Mihawk beat Zoro). Soon after Shanks appears and tells them he saw their fight and asks Mihawk to join him to fight the BB pirates. Mihawk agrees and eventually loses to Shiryuu. Shiryuu then goes on to gloat about becoming the WSS. But then Mihawk (before he actually dies) tells Shiryuu that Zoro already beat him and took the title.
Thus creating more buil-up & tension for Shiryuu vs. Zoro.
