No he killed everybody who fought him but I think he was caught in a tsukyomi by madara after the vote battle and was mentally broken down and put in a coma in the middle of a forest. Then madara started a forest fire and hashirama was burnt alive. Konoha thought this to be an act of war from a rival country and started war.

His death even in the databook isn't precisily stated. As in its not stated if he was killed or died from a natural cause.
