So I was just re-watching the Lee vs Gaara fight (during chunnin exams), and I realized that Gai kinda taught lee a technique that could potentially kill neji (part 1 neji). He doesn't have any innate defense unlike Gaara, so I feel like Gai sensei taught one of his students a technique that could potentially kill one of his other students. As awesome as Gai is, that seems pretty irresponsible. Thoughts?

teaching them a technique like that was pretty irresponsible no matter HOW you look at it, but i saw that lee wanted to grow as much as he can and the hidden lotus was his trump card

They are ninjas. They fight and kill.

I see what you may be saying about part 1 but still.

Yep. Guy parades around in a skin tight suit and his biggest failure is teaching a lethal attack to a twelve year old...

Kakashi taught Sasuke chidori, but at least he dresses normally. :win:

Kakashi taught sasuke to cover his hand in lightning and to run fast a jab it through people's chest
Tsunade taught a young psychopath how to have monster strength
jiriya taught naruto how to unleash a demon stored in his stomach.

Gai seems way more responsible than them

Lee wanted to prove that you don't need to have ninjutsu to become a good ninja, so he had only taijutsu, that's why Gai taught Lee something like this, so that he will be able to keep up with 'Genius' Ninjas in death battles, so he wasn't irresponsible.

The technique would most likely kill or at least cripple Neji. It's fine to teach him the technique, but not for the purposes of using it against a fellow comrade.

Log out of NarutoBase and never come back. 'Specially not on an alt. If you think Neji is weak...

OT: Gai isn't the brightest, but if I recall. . Lee needed permission from Gai to use these moves. Plus, Lee wouldn't use them if he thought they'd kill Neji. Obviously Neji had some ways to get 'round them.

Everything a ninja learns can potentially kill a person, whether it is op or not, even a kunai is deadly for a human. It is a sensei's job to teach whatever a student can learn, their job to make them stronger.

About Gai teaching that technique, i don't believe Gai taught Lee gates just because he can kill Neji off, he taught him that because Lee wan to be a strong ninja and gates were his greatest and only chance. And Gai also said him to only use that technique "when a precious person is in danger or he has to protect his ninja way", Lee would only use that tech on an actual encounter with Neji(which he was not willing to do until accepting Lee as a rival) or in an exam round, in such battles people are fight to death anyway. And Gai can stop a match if he interferes, just like happened with Neji vs Hinata.

Yup I agree :), that's why i said 'death battles', It wasn't Gai's fault, it was Lee's.
