Hashirama died while fighting, and we know this because he had his armor on when he was reanimated. :yeah: Imagine if he died in state of shock by seeing Madara still alive. I bet Madara scared him to death. =D

he died in the war, it does not matter how strong he's, he can't defeat armies by himself.
Also, there are many strong Ninjas died, I don't see what the problem of him getting killed.
it's not like if he does not have a weakness.

1. Could have been poisoned in battle by an enemy or someone he thought was an ally (poison kills anyone)

2. Died protecting comrades in war.

3. Healing and regenerating with hand signs like Tsunade caused him to weaken his lifespan faster and having him die while not in his prime from shortening his lifespan.
