I think it's because these elected officials they are put into office are mostly a bunch of idiots. I feel they are out of touch and just try to cover their own salaries. How did someone pass a law that was so broad it did something like this? Did the governor read over the bill and with all his qualification/knowledge he managed to mess up this bad. Gahhh if I lived in Florida I'd be piss.

Idiots tend to flock together:

Of course - people in that "too incompetent to realize their incompetence" crowd like to use such things to snipe at particular people/institutions - but that just illustrates the point even further.

*sigh*

I would say: "This is why there should be some kind of a test..." - but like I said - idiots flock together. Using a simple system of "what do most people think is correct" will not prevent stupidity, especially in this day and age where education is a service rather than a discipline. How many people with a 4-year degree truthfully understand what they have that degree in... and how many simply had the 'correct' answer(s) pounded into their head?

They now get regarded as experts even though they're simply a vector for dogma - and now they get to say what is and is not correct en masse - so democracy fails even when you have requirements and try to compartmentalize decision making.

That said - oligarchies are prone to the same thing. Militaries around the world struggle with micro-politics and its macroscopic impact on the chain of command. There are more fools than any other class of person, and they'll worm their way into any system that doesn't literally kill them off.

Our military has been slowly (but steadily) decaying in the quality of its leadership since what was built up during World War II and, somewhat, during Vietnam. Foolish people and incompetent people got killed by the thousand (as well as good people) - those who achieved results were put in charge of things because even fools have self-preservation instincts (unfortunately).

Which is why free market enterprise and a limited government that uses democracy by proxy is about as good as it's going to get. But even then... you've got to kill off the stupid people every now and then - put the system through stressors that shake out those who have simply ridden the buddy-system into power.

If not - the incompetence swells to the point that the system collapses under its own weight and stupidity.

Which is where we are going, and it's just fine by me. If stupid people want to collapse the system that allows them to live and breed by the million - I'm more than happy to sit back and let them do it. Live out my survivalist fantasy? Don't threaten me with a good time. Burn down libraries and infrastructure - crawl back to people like myself who have now become practitioners of dark arts regarding lost technology.

It's happened before. (Library of Alexandria) - It will happen again. My blood line need only wait.

Dumbasses, ban electronic devices and shut down an entire industry. Genuises down there.

Why don't we just go after lawbreakers and leave those that are doing no wrong alone.

Because, at any given time, you have the -potential- to do something wrong.

And we can't enable people to do something wrong. It's the government's job to protect people from themselves. They're too stupid to know any better [. . . the same people who elect the government representatives who think people are too stupid to take care of their own affairs. . . have your all's heads exploded from the sweet irony, there?]. That is why government must be there to write a fine for you when running with scissors. You have a right to life - and we can't have you infringing upon it by taking unnecessary risks with yourself. Since the potential for death doesn't motivate you to avert such risks, the laws of this land are there to ensure that you must have money taken from you or and/or spend time in Adult Time-Out so that you are sufficiently motivated to not endanger your own life.

*Sigh* Darth... when are you going to realize the error of your ways? You just need to bring your iPhone down to Starbucks so you can start fulfilling your potential. You're an intelligent person, but you just need to be enlightened like many others after they went to college. You're sure to find several on their iMacs who are networked in with thousands of under-employed art-school graduates. They're people who really know the true face of this economic decline and how corporate America has taken a dump on their head. [Actually - my heart does go out to those who were misled by the system and who aren't POSes who need to contract Ebola Zaire]

You must be registered for see images

Really if you need to be taught what art is you have already failed at art.... It is like studying what it is like to be poor, it just doesn't work unless you were poor.

I... think you knew I was being sarcastic and were just responding to me as if I were serious.... but I figure I should point that out.

I think you've been in some of the same discussions as me enough about this sort of thing to be familiar with my standpoint... but just to be safe...

That said - I think some elements of government are a necessary evil. What system the 'government' takes will vary from society to society - but people are highly political by nature. If there's no official government - it will be mobs and 'X-lords' that become the defacto political system (which, when followed by people, becomes a form of government).
