So, the barrier was somewhat pointless?

The 8-tails said it....

Does that mean that the Juubi could have broken the barrier if it felt like it?

It was meant for the Juubi, then for Obito. Not much you can really do.

Are you joking?

It saved the entire Alliance from instant death.

And wasted a crapload of chakra on the Edo Kages part when they could have just fought and effectively subdued Obito and Madara before this disaster occurring now.

That's complete speculation, and wrong regardless.

Juubi's TBB would have killed everyone if they had done that.

It was too dumb to focus its chakra
This, pretty much.

Like in the case with the Sanbi, the Jubi simply did not have the intelligence to harness it's own power, without the help of a Jinchuuriki.

Edo Minato: LOL. Hashirama and and Tobirama had a clone limit when maintaining the barrier. That alone shows they were consuming a crapload of chakra to maintain the barrier

The barrier was point"ful" when the juubi couldnt control its power properly, now just forget about it.

What does that have to do with anything. Minato FTg the first tbb because he he got in front of it by transporting to the seal on the 8tails then using the s/t barrier. The next one could not be avoided. Hence only the dead edo hokages would be alive. When the made the red barrier, Madara wasn't fighting and obito wasn't there. So stopping the juubi was the most important thing then.
