Well from a narrative point of view, it is very possible that somehow the sage's spirit got trapped in the juubi(Some sort of RDS variant) and is now corrupted with evil and possesing obito or something.. It happens more often than you think.

This entire theory is based on the pattern on juubito's back, identical to the patter on the sages cloak.

It would explain why he doesnt know who obito is.

You misunderstood what i meant. Juubito is not physicaly the sage of the six paths. He is obtio, being possesed by the corrupted evil versoin of the sage or something.
