Do you really need hand signs to activate a Jutsu (not like Rasegan)

When Sasuke was trying to master the Fireball jutsu when he was young, he had to use hand signs like other jutsu. But, what really confused me was that, when Sasuke was fighting itachi, the did this clash of 2 fireball jutsu but. Then they required no hand signs, all they did was breath in and burst out the fire technique.

Also if hand signs doesn't need to be required to activate a jutsu, doesn't that mean Naruto could do Kage bunshin with no signs since he kept on using that like 3-4 years of his life. Or maybe Naruto is too naive to do that.

Bit of topic but:

Same goes for ninja who shout out their jutsu's ...

let's be completely honnest about this: Ninja's are all about tactics and suprise attacks etc ... what's the point of some people doing their handsigns and YELLING = KATON FIRE BALL NO JUTSUUUUU!!!!... it's like telling the enemy ''oh he's going to shoot a fire ball at me ! i better use my suiton now ! ..

On topic: most jutsu do require handseals yes .. not all of them but most of them :)

Hand signs are like training wheels. When you've used a jutsu enough, your body has learned to mold the chakra well enough where you don't need as many, if any at all.

It has something to do with your level of skill (dunno if this is a fact). Some (Haku) could make signs with one hand. The Kages all had to make a sign to make Kage Bunshin in that last chapter though. I like the training wheels analogy. It's advantageous to be able to use jutsus without handsigns, it's like you're broadcasting to everyone what you're about to do.

When you use the same jutsu many times, your body gets used to it, so hand signs aren't required. :)

Look it takes seals to activate it if you dont have full mastery over it or you are not fast with handseals.

Look kakashi barely seen itachi use handseals with the sharingan. so its safe to assume that techniques can be created without techniques and ones that can be created with and use in a quick way
