So as I was reading about shurikens in wikipedia I saw pictures that really reminded me of Sharingan designs, it seems that Kishimoto draws them from Shuriken designs:

Look at sharingan and shurikens:

You can also see Sakura's clan symbol and something similar to Neji's seal on forehead. :p

Yeah he probably did use Shurikens as a base for his designs. Agreed.

I'm pretty sure they're pinwheels. I thought that was what mangekyo meant.

Really? That totally has so many relations to ninjas and it makes so much sense. *_*

Nah I just read that somewhere. Mangekyo is actually kaleidoscope which makes a lot more sense.

But I saw a pic that matched every eye to a specific pinwheel... It was a while ago. I think the wikia lists that too. Whatevs shuriken* or pinwheels, they are still cool as hell.

As interesting as this is this guy is probably right, mangekyou sharingan means kaleidoscope copy wheel eye. It could be a sharingan but I also read somewhere that inspiration came from pinwheels.

The ones that could come from kaleidoscope copy wheel eye are 8 and 13, others are shurikens no matter how I look at them. But 13 too has shuriken in it.
