sits waiting upon the sands just outside of Sunagakure. He sits with his eyes closed and his gourd on his back.

I was told to be here at an appointed time, but that passed a while ago now...

Just outside the village gates, a small sand storm picks up an sweeps across the area. It engulfs you and your surroundings, after what seemed like a few seconds the storm passed.

So, a young look a like wishes to learn the ways of Sand Release?

I bring my arm over my face, blocking the sand as a sudden gust kicks it up. When I lower my hand I see that my teacher had finally arrived. I then stand up as he looks me over and asks me a question.

Yes, Senpai. I have waited to learn the secrets of the sand and Im eager to begin.

Sand release refers to the manipulation of sand for all manner of techniques, being offensive, defensive or supplementary. Sand release is a very versatile ninjutsu, mainly due to the fact that sand can be manipulated in almost innumerable ways to form different shapes or solid constructs for battle. Sand techniques overall are usually very large in scale, taking advantage of the huge amount of sand to overwhelm the opponent. Then once they are trapped the sand is compacted, crushing the opponent under huge pressures. Sand is weak to water because the sand will absorb the moisture and become very hard to manipulate while lightning is strong against sand as it is able to pierce even the strongest sand defenses. Sand is strong against fire as it has a high tolerance to the heat and can simple smother the fire to extinguish it. Sand is also strong against earth as it can grind and weather away the rock and its constructs can be manipulated to be as dense as the thickest rock walls.

As you know, we do not create the sand as other ninja create their respective elements. This is both advantageous, and a drawback.

Hmm, well the main disadvantage would be that if there is no sand present in the area, then we cannot use these techniques. Thus why we carry a gourd full of sand on our backs, the only other option being to create sand in the area by grinding rocks up. The advantage would be that since we don't have to create our element, then our techniques are used that much faster than other elements.

We are unable to conjure sand from chakra, so we are troubled with the task of carrying extra weight thus slowing our movements. Tho at the same time, our sand is prepared and kneaded with our chakra ahead of time so if a battle should occur. The sand is ready to move immediately. Not having to take the time to conjure chakra saves time drastically.

Sit on the sand and focus your chakra out of your tenketsu's an into the sand. Meditate. Feel the sand around you.

I nod as I listen and then take a seat upon the sand while closing my eyes. I sit in a relaxed pose and i slowly let my chakra flow out of my body and into the sand below me. I breathe deeply and expand the amount and range of the chakra until I have a small area of sand around me saturated in my chakra. I then concentrate on the sand and reflect on it in my mind, getting familiar with it as well as its quirks and tendencies. I continue to do this over a fairly long time until I feel I have memorized everything I can about the sand and I can feel it with my chakra. I then open my eyes and look up at my trainer.

When we use our techniques all we need to do is use shape manipulation to sculpt the sand to our desire. So stand up and lets get started. I want you to control the sand, make it take various shapes an sizes. Start with a small baseball like ball, that is solid. Then move to a hollow basketball sized sphere.

I first stand and then focus my chakra that is present in the sand on the ground. I use hand movements to help my control and I manipulate a small clump of sand to rise up to eye level in front of me. I then use shape manipulation and turn and clench my hand, focusing on refining the clump into more of a sphere. Excess sand falls from the clump as I compact the center into a sphere and make it denser, a small sphere of compacted sand is then revealed that I then shoot at nearby boulder, where it punches through it with ease.

Hmm needs improvement.

I then take a much larger clump of chakra infused sand from the ground and I make it float in the air in front of me. Once again I use hand movements to help me manipulate the sand and I start forming the hollow ball from the bottom. I first focus on forming a thin layer of dense sand that i then build onto, curving the layer as I go and adding more and more sand until i finish the complete sphere with it hollow inside.

With it hanging in the air I look over to my teacher.

I nod and then lift my hand up and thrust it forwards, manipulating the ball of sand I made earlier. It shoots forwards and smashes the head off the sand dummy in a shower of sand.

As I thought, where as the sphere was hollow it couldn't damage the compacted training dummy. There is a way though. I want you to make the sand sphere again, hollow like before. This time focus on the shell. Making it as thick and tough as possible while avoiding that compacted nature leaving it hollow. I then manipulate a new clump of sand and I make it rise into the air in front of me. There I start to knead more chakra into it while using curving motions with my hands to help me begin to form the shell. I once again start from the bottom, forming a bowl shape while focusing my chakra into t making it harder and denser as I do so. I then add more sand onto the bottom, taking care to make the shell as hard as possible, curving the sand up to form a conplete sphere. Once the sand spere is complete I focus my chakra around the entire ball, increasig its hardbess even further. I then thrust my hand forwards, shooting the sphere towards the sand dummy to see if I accomplished my task.

Gaara watches again, knowing the results like last time. As the sand sphere smashes into the target it blows the head right off it.

That was not bad. Lets step it up a bit shall we? This time use shape manipulation to create 3 more sand spheres to knock the heads off of these new training dummies.

Suddenly the headless training dummy breaks down and rises up whole again, this time he is accompanied by 2 others.

After beheading these, i want you to will the sand from the surrounding area to rise up and completely cover one, then cause the sand under another to part and suck it down, while finishing with a large sand pillar to blast the third one up into the air.

That was not bad. Lets step it up a bit shall we? This time use shape manipulation to create 3 more sand spheres to knock the heads off of these new training dummies.

Suddenly the headless training dummy breaks down and rises up whole again, this time he is accompanied by 2 others.

After beheading these, i want you to will the sand from the surrounding area to rise up and completely cover one, then cause the sand under another to part and suck it down, while finishing with a large sand pillar to blast the third one up into the air.

I once again begin to manipulate the sand from directly in front of me I make a large clump rise up to my eye level in front of me. I then split this sand into three smaller groups and I start to knead chakra into each one individually while beginning to form the circular shapes of the hollow spheres. I form each one from the bottom up simultaneously, I concentrate on making the shell as hard and as tough as possible, using my chakra to do so. I then curve the sand up to complete each sphere and I focus as much chakra as I can in each sphere to maximize its hardness. I then thrust my arm forwards and shoot each ball at the dummy, blowing their heads off in a shower of sand.

I then observe the results of the first jutsu. Hmm ok next is

I the focus my chakra into the sand beneath the left dummy, saturating it before I start the jutsu. I then extend both arms palm towards them. I then focus the chakra and manipulate the sand so that it starts to creep up the clones body, I use my hand movements to help, bringing my hands up and together in time with the sand. Then I manipulate the sand to cover the last of the dummy's body, completely covering him in a thick layer of sand.

I then take my attention over to the middle dummy. I once again begin by channeling my chakra into the sand beneath him, pushing a large amount to that spot until the sand is saturated with my chakra. I then manipulate the sand and cause it to become looser and to suddenly part under the dummy. Thus causing him to fall into the pit created and sink down, until he is no longer visible from the surface.

I then begin my jutsu for the third and final dummy. I once again concentrate my chakra underneath the dummy, channeling quite a large amount to the sand underneath him. I then bring my hand up in front of me while simultaneously streaming a large amount of chakra to the sand under the dummy. I continue to do so, building up the pressure underneath him until i have gathered a sufficient amount of chakra and I then raise my hand quickly, triggering the sand to thrust upwards suddenly, slamming into your dummy and sending him flying into the air.

How did I do?

You did very well. Though the arm flailing makes you look like you are dancing and is not always needed.

It doesn't do much damage but it could push someone attempting melee back a few meters from you, while giving them a nasty bruise.

This technique is very self explanatory. Using sand from your gourd or the surrounding area. One-three advantages:

• 1.The technique is versatile, being able to be used in multiple situations
• 2.Especially useful against taijutsu as you can create distance between yourself and the enemy as well as damage him

One-three disadvantages:

• 1.The technique is short range only
• 2. The technique does very little damage and so in some situations it would be better to use other techniques
• 3.

How you would use it in battle:
I would mostly use this to counter kunai and low ranked taijutsu, as its simple and fast as well as effective.
What would be your counter for it:
I would just use combo attacks with water to slow down the sand to let my attack slip through before the sand can stop it.
What speed would you rate this 1-3:
1 because this jutsu is so simple, it can be used very fast in tight situations to counter your opponent

How you perform it (with as much detail as you can): To begin I concentrate my chakra and I then channel it into the sand within my gourd. I then manipulate my sand so that it flies out into the air in front of me. Where I then use shape manipulation to form it into a shield in front of me, focusing my chakra within the sand so that it forms a dense layer of sand that protect me from weak attacks. I then push my hands forwards and using the chakra already within the sand I cause it to loosen and fall forwards as a small wave, it isn't too powerful but it is strong enough to push an opponent back.
