Urasan: I think of blocking as involving a stationary defense and parrying as a moving defense.
Saki: In the latter's case, it is done by striking an enemy's sword with your own; around the forte or the base of the blade.
Urasan: Oh, and parrying deflects the enemy's blade away, protecting you and putting you in a good position to counter.
