However, Itachi gained the Mangekyo Sharingan near the end of his Anbu career, and likely had to gain Susano'o over time unlike Sasuke who used his Mangekyo Sharingan frivolously.

He hadn't used MS at that time, as I remember... It was after Shisui had died and after that was Uchiha massacre.

OT: I dont think Itachi had MS during his anbu days because he awakaned it during basically the day before the massacre.

Hm, I suppose so. For some reason I remembered it as Susanoo exclusive. Although, this makes me ponder on whether or not MS itself is an improved 3 tomoe or if it's just a different shaped eye that holds no meaning until the powers themselves awaken. Sorry for the rambling there, not exactly relevant.
