well i do, personally i think the sage had a third son who was an uzumaki. To explain this first i will quote narutopedia:
"The Uzumaki clan (うずまき一族, Uzumaki Ichizoku) was a prominent clan in Uzushiogakure. They were distant blood relatives of the Senju clan and as such, both were on good terms."
the uzumaki were blood relatives to the senju, and i think that means down the line they had come from the same father, the sage.
now why were they destroyed is a good question. fear of sealing jutsu, strong life force and longevity whatever. to me thats not enough to go out and destroy a village because if it was you would hunt down every single red head in the narutoverse and finish the job.
i think the reason they were destroyed was because they had all 9 bijuu or at least kurama. Now the reason i think this is because, well the uzumaki specialize in sealing jutsu.
if you recall madara fought hashirama with kurama, but as you see when hashi and madara are growing up there is not even a mention of the bijuu, but all of a sudden madara leaves and comes back with kurama.
i think this is because after tobirama talks shit on him, madara went and read the nakano shrine or at least looked at it differantly then normal, since the sages uchiha son was all about power he would obviously believe the bijuu were meant for strength, and so would madara and he then goes out and destroys the uzumaki village and takes kurama to fight hashirama.
after hashirama defeats madara he takes the ninetails back to the uzumaki only to find they've been destroyed and the sole survivor, Mito, knows how to deal with kurama and had nowhere to go so she would later become his wife.
now heres where things get wierd because hashirama distributes all the bijuu to the 5 nations as a sign of trust.
but where and when did he get them? I think madara may have soloed them all, because they probly werent the type to use the bijuu for strength instead they were sealed just to keep them quiet, thus they were running wild and needed new jins, and hashirama captured them with mitos help, and gave them to the other nations so if someone like madara tried to take them again they would be used against him.
this part about the bijuu is not really relevant but give me your theories anyway because im interested to hear them.
and in the end i believe the uzumaki were blessed with an unheard of part of the sages power, which naruto will use to give the bijuu a new form and a new name, and they will become peacekeepers so to speak.
this is my hypothesis, what do you think. add correct or just flame.
