It’s long held true that the launch of Nintendo’s Wii proposed an insurmountable challenge to the competition, with astronomical sales figures that no one could have predicted. Now however, six years later, Microsoft Studios has done the impossible, as the Xbox 360 has officially become the UK’s best selling console of the current generation.
The Xbox 360 console has now sold 8.4 million consoles throughout the UK, according to Gfk Chart-Track, only 1.6 million behind the biggest selling console the country has ever seen: the PlayStation 2. The success of the console is undoubtedly buoyed by it’s year head-start on the Wii and PlayStation 3, and a successful series of redesigns and marketing initiatives that have kept the console’s price artificially high by adding in value as opposed to lowering the price.
