I seriously don't understand how the kages survived.

Madara, the guy who spent his whole life fighting, isn't going to make sure his opponents are dead?

Not only that, but he knows how good Hashirama's healing is, and even compares tsunade to him. Aside from that the kages tell him that she is a medic. Then there's the fact that Madara has been fighting the Senjus for decades and he would know how strong their bodies are. So why in the world would he just leave them there without making sure they had no heart beat left?

Even if he is arrogant, he isn't a fool.

Why would it matter? He proved to them that he's better, kind of like when he fought Muu and Ohnoki. Even if they lived and challenged him, he could just defeat them again.

The Kages are probably a vital part on how the Alliance is going to take down the Jubi (If he even reaches his perfect form).
I'm thinking that Kishi might have made Tsunade and the other's survive, to sacrifice themselfs on defeating the Jubi.

I think - after defeating 5 Kages, Madara thought they were no match for him & may be Madara was bored with them.
So Madara left them there to die slow painful death and joined Obito in the battlefield.

This means one thing. He's not into killing but fighting. Is this glorious or challenging to slaughter defenceless weaklings? He just don't care if they survive or not. His toys were broken, he just left them. And more..he can achieve much more 'fun' with 5 kage's again on battlefield. He's not stupid and he's playing arrogant only when he can be that way. And I'm still thinking that his 'dead' in Valley of the End wasn't so simple as we saw it.

I think I would have been fine if he had at least killed her since she was the one he was mocking/threatening the most.
