IMO it is the best ongoing anime right now, and yes, better than attack on titan (although I love that show too). Also, keep in mind that I was very close minded about the show. The character designs were a little too weird for me at first, and the show does take a while to pick up but don't let that turn you off to the show, its worth it.
At first it seems like a light hearted show for younger audiences. And it kind of is for the first arc. But every arc progressively gets more serious. And every arc is 10x better than the last. It takes a while to get into it, I was kind of forcing myself through the first arc hoping it would get better, but once it really picks up (Yorknew arc), I found myself sitting there thinking "When did this show become so ****ing awesome?"
The arc they are currently on, the chimera and arc, is only around 10 episodes in and it is already one of my top 3 arcs of all time. The only reason i felt the need to post this was because of last nights episode. I has been a long time since I've seen an episode that made me as emotional as last nights, and yes, it was better that last nights attack on titan episode.
Other reasons to watch it:
Amazing animation The animation is simple, but unlike a lot of popular shows, its consistent. And the fighting is some of the best that I've seen. Even the most unimportant battles are animated better than the best battles in Naruto.
Here's just a taste of the animation and the fights (small spoilers, but nothing too big) This fight wasn't even an important one and look how well it is animated. Also, you can see how dark the show can get.

TL;DR - Amazing show even if you like more serious stuff like me. Takes a while to pick up but is worth it. Top notch animation. If you like anime with a good storyline and awesome fighting, and you're not watching hunter, you're doing it wrong.
