Photoshop: Problem opening downloaded picture from Narutobase

Every time I download an avatar to my computer so that I could edit it, including mine for some reason I always receive this message if its a (.gif but non animated file) whenever I tried to open it in photoshop.

My computer is a Macbook pro retina and my photoshop version is cs6.
Just wondering if any other user is encountering this problem, especially those that have macs and same version of photoshop.
Please help how to fix this since it happens all the time, thanks!

I had same problem on Windows.
Go to paint or some other program and save it as jpg with some other name

Thanks, but I tried renaming the file and converted it to .jpg but still receiving this dreadful message. Lol
The only option that works for me is upload the image to imgur using the image's url (since it automatically converts it into .png file), then download it to my computer, and open it on photoshop. This is too many steps imo
Is there an easier fix? Also why is this problem occurring in the first place? :'(

I use a programm called Irfanview, I have it as my main image viewer cause it can also play gifs ^^
anyway, if you open an image, irfanview will recognize the error and will ask you to change it to a jpeg/png or gif or whatever it should be. helps me a lot!
