its depends on who you want to revive, if its someone who died only a few hours ago, you wouldn't have to die using the technique. It would take a considerable amount of chakra but you would still live. But if you want to revive someone who died years ago, then it would cost you your life most likely because of the excessive amount of chakra drain.
