Sai was never part of Team 7

When Sasuke defected Konoha, and naruto left to train with Jiraiya, team 7 was disbanded. When naruto came back, team Kakashi was formed, and sai later joined that. Sai was only ever a member of team Kakashi

Of course, There is very little difference between team Kakashi and Team 7.

The significance of this is roughly equal to that of half the proof in sage is an uzumaki threads. Nill with Spirals.

Sai was and still is part of Team 7.. Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura were the original 3 Man Team but when Sasuke left, Sai filled that spot and still officially is part of the new 3 Man Team with Kakashi on the lead..

That's your point of view but kishi has other plans since sai said in the last chapter that he is also a part of team 7.
However its better to say that sai was never able to replace sasuke,he was an addition in team 7.
