Minato is the only shinobi to have never bee hit by another shinobi which is impossible in a ninja world but he has made it possible and itachi is very powerful but mi ato beats him the same wayne beats every one by his sheer speed and sure the yata mirror blocks all nature transformation attacks well the rasengan is nothing but violately rotating chakra as he didn't have the time to apply the next step to it which was mix it with a nature so by that his rasengan could possibly damage susano and if not u itachi fans forgot the susano is penetrable there is a gap in its back by the spine area and Danzo exploited it and whose to say minato using ftg won't attack that way and I believe minato to be more powerful and smarter because...

Minato beat Obito and kurama, minato quickly deciphered the mechanics behind obito's kamui within less than 1 minute, while itachi main goal was to spy on akatsuki and if he could have defeated Obito whom he thought was Madara even despite the fact that he had been around him for a while now but if he could have defeated Obito he would have and this war would not be happening but asu can see its happening...and for the guys saying tsukoyami well dnt forget minato has the greatest chakra control and well even oro recognized itachi genjutsu and was about to break out of it but itachi realized that and cut of oro hand well that same thing would apply to for minato he could break free because of his high level chakra control which has only been possibly surpassed by naruto if oro could break free then he could too

I don't like any of the characters but i'd have to say Itachi is definetly the stronger shinobi.

Unless it's edo Minato who then has KMC.

And since it's not a 1v1, but simply a question of who is the strongest i'd say Itachi definetly seems like the logical choice here.

Itachi:
A true master at genjutsu
Pretty good mastery of both Fire and Water style
Very fast and skilled in taijutsu.
Highly intelligent
Amaterasu
Susanoo with Yata and Totsuka
Izanami (Plot no jutsu)

Minato:
Incredibly fast
Highly intelligent
FTG and Space Time Barrier
Rasengan
Summoning Jutsu: Gamabunta
Skilled in Sealing Jutsu.

Now Minato might be faster than Itachi and have some pretty good sealing jutsu, but that's basicly the only things he beat Itachi in. Gamabunta is strong, but it won't matter much when figthing so high level shinobi.
Itachi has way more firepower like Amaterasu for example, while Minato only has Rasengan.
Itachi also has his incredibly powerful genjutsu which is so strong that most of the time he won't even have to use anything else.
Then there's Susanoo which is an extremely strong defense and thanks to Totsuka also a pretty good offense.
And last but not least there's his intelligence. I know we have seen both of them using their brain to get out of tough situations, but i honesly think Itachi is the smarter one. The way he took out Nagato (With help of cause ) alone is proof that he's one of the smartest in the series.

look at their opponents.
Minato took on Ay and Bee, Obito and Kurama, around 20 jounin, and whole battalions alone and simultaneously, while protecting his comrades.

Itachi took on: Orochimaru alone twice and won easily. Sasuke took him to the brink. part 1 Kakashi (pt1 Kabuto level who wasn't that special), Deidara at a time when he couldnt recognise genjutsu, and 12yo Naruto and Sasuke. fled from Jiraiya, and his clone w/o the mangekyou lost to kakashi and base naruto. in edo tensei the superior opponents he took on- nagato and kabuto, he had numerical advantage and very high level backup; perfect jinchuuriki and an ems user, plus all the advantages of edo tensei- no blindness, no ms pain, and no stamina issues which were his three banes when alive.

imo, you know when a shinobi is really top tier when they take on numerous high level shinobi by themselves. that is- hashirama, madara, obito, dsm kabuto, nagato, naruto, hiruzen, minato, sasuke and hanzou.

While this has been brought up since records began and its opinion based, im confused about the opponents minato supposedly took by himself.

Example, he never took on the kumo duo.
It has always been a speed duel between Ei and minato with Bee interfering at the last minute.
However an interference that bee himself later didn't recognize as his fight when he claimed an inexperienced ms sasuke to be the strongest shinobi he has faced. But also claimed until sasuke' avoiding his number 8, nobody apart from Ei has done. Stating that, if he had fought minato, his number 8 should have landed going by that statement.

Next it baffles me when its claimed he took on Kurama and Obito at the same time when i remember obito summoning kurama to konoha and doing battle with minato alone. After the fight, did he and kushina (something that people always push to the back of their minds), overcame kurama.

Minato didn't face what hashirama faced which was madara+ kurama. He faced them individually with help from kushina in respect to kurama

He later received help with the distribution of his kunai's by konoha fodders.

Anyway kishi gives every shinobi a last showing to state their claim before they die, with the exception of shinobi's with illnesses or old age which has hindered their strength.

I believe minato that night was at his wits end that night against obito and while he may have other techniques under his belt, i do not think they would be significant enough to drastically increase his strength and that might be why he has now received bijuu powers
