So, I haven't played Pokémon in years, and I really haven't played since generation 3. However, on a whim, I purchased Black 2, and it should arrive today. In advance I've been looking at assembling my team, and below's what I came up with:

You should probably change Yanmega or Mamoswine or Chandelure with Staraptor, Elektross or Excadrill, Those are pretty good if you want a good team..

Just a preference :p

What? The only one that looks lame is Chandelur. The rest are actually awesome. Specially Electivire.

Well, Staraptor isn't available in Black 2, so it really isn't an option.

Elektross looks alright, but for electric Pokémon Electivire has better stats and its motor drive ability is pretty sweet.

Excadrill seems decent, but if I look at my team set up, the only one I would replace it with is Mamoswine, and I'd be reluctant to do that since Mamoswine's such a beast. I'm not very attached to Yanmega or Chandelure, but I want a good flying type and a fire type, and I think they bring something to the table. If you have any fire or flying recommendations, I'm all ears.

I'm a first generation guy myself, but there aren't many in Black 2, and I want to explore different stuff. If I want to go all first gen, I'll replay Blue/Red.

u shoulmd take out yenmega and put feraligattor

Feraligattor isn't available in Black 2...

Yeah, I'm not attached to it. However, there doesn't appear to be an abundance of good fire Pokémon in the game. Also, it's kind of interesting as a fire/ghost type. Any recommendations for an alternate fire type?

You can gain a Starly once you complete the game by walking around forests or towns or you can get a Staraptor by trade..same goes for the above Pokemon.

Replacing mammoswine and yanmega would be the best option, chandelure is a good choice, he has one of the highest sp attack stats out of all the non-legendaries, and if you can get one from the dream wold with shadow tag ability it would help you out the best, are you planning on ev training as well?

I don't want to wait until I complete the game to assemble my team...

I can understand replacing Yanmega, but why Mamoswine? It's pretty beastly by stats and it's ground/ice move set is nice. I don't know what the dream world is, but I'll take your word for it. What's ev training?

I looked at Braviary, but I wasn't sure I wanted a straight up flying type. Any other recommendations? I assume you still need a flying type in this generation to get around easily.

Well, most of those Pokemon on your team won't be able to come after you finish the game, Which is why you would have to trade good Pokemon for it.

Boy do I feel honored :yayy:

Unfortunately for you, I can't help you with the locations as the only game(s) in the series that I haven't adamantly played through was the 5th Gen series. However, I've done (and always) do research on Pokemon so as far the ratings of each Pokemon I can help you there, I'll take them one by one and try to help as best I can.

Serperior

Type: Grass
Weaknesses: Fire, Flying, Ice, Posion
Top 3 stats: (1)Speed, (Tie) Defense, Special Defense

The final evolve form of the of the starter Snivy. If you want to have a speedy, defensive grass type, then this is the pokemon for you. Not only can you breed one with Mirror Coat (don't know if you're into that) but it can learn a very nifty move called Coil which raises ATK, Defense and Accuracy as well as the second most powerful grass attack, Leaf Storm. Serperior's movepool is also good as well so I highly recommend it

Elekible/Electivire

Type: Electric
Weakness: Ground; Nullified with Magnet Rise
Top 3 stats: (1)Attack, (2) Speed, (3) Special Attack

One of my personal favorite Pokemon, Electivire boast a little better than average speed stat making it a semi physical sweeper. It's ability, "motor drive" Is a very great ability which absorbs Electric attacks and raises it's speed one stage. The only bad thing about it is obtaining it and that's only through trading with a held item (if it's not the Electrizer in the 5th gen then I recommend you go on serebii.net to find out). Electivire boast a great movepool allowing to fend against those that it is weak against (E.G It can use Ice Punch on a ground type). Electivire has weak defense so matching it up with Physical pokemon such as most fighting pokemon isn't a good idea even if it can do Psychic

Mamoswine
Type: Ice/Ground
Weaknesses: Fire, Steel, Water, Grass
Top 3 stats: (1)Attack, (2) Defense, (3) Speed

Mamoswine, der derp. I personally hate this Pokemon, but I won't late that interfere. Mamoswine has a great attack stat and moves that STAB (STAB is using a move of the same type that allows that attack to gain more damage because of the same type; E.G Earthqauke is a ground type and so is Mamoswine) like Earthquake (Base power will equal 150, it's original is 100. STAB multiplier = Base Power of move/2 + the answer, EG: Earthquake base power is 100. 100/2 = 50, 50+100 = 150) Will usually 1 hit KO Pokemon like Aggron (who has one of the best defenses in the game but it has a dbl weakness) or Pokemon with poor defense stats. Mamoswine has horrible Special Stats, so much that it is fairly easy for a well trained Gengar to kill it with 2 hits. Mamoswine can be evolved from Piloswine by leveling up PS with the move Ancientpower. If Ancientpower is part of it's 4 moves when it levels up, then it will evolve

Chandelure
Type: Ghost/Fire
Weaknesses: Ground, Rock, Ghost, Dark, Water
Best Stats: (1) Special Attack, (2) Speed, (3) Special Defense

Chandelure, has the best special attack out of any Pokemon that isn't a Legendary and is actually the strongest Ghost-type (sorry Gengar). Though it does have a fairly average movepool, it makes up for it's abilities Flash Fire or Flame Body. I recommend getting one with the Flash Fire ability simply because Flash Fire negates all damage done by fire attack and raises you fire attacks by a 1.5 multiplier, great for STAB moves (Fire moves in this case). Breeding this Pokemon wih Acid Armor gives you a Special Sweeping Defensive type as it's Special Defense is a little above average while it's defense is a little below average (Acid armor fixes this problem). Though if you don't want to breed it, I recommend giving it Will - O - Wisp as burning a Pokemon lowers it's Attack stat by 25% while it's in battle

Lappy =3
Type: Ice/Water
Weaknesses: Rock, Thunder, Grass, Fighting
Best Stats? I forgot lol

Also one of my favorite Pokemons and also one of my best (till my bro destroyed my game >_>) through EV and IV training. Lapras has average stats and is well balanced in all of them but speed. Out of this team, Laparas has the best movepool able to learn Electric and even Psychic moves. Lapras has the abilities Shell Armor (Prevents Critical hits on it) and Water Absorb (renders water attack useless and restores 1/4 of it's HP) you choose your own ability lol. What impressive about Lapras is it's HP, it has great enduarance and can be used as a fighter or a staller

My recommendation
Keep em all cept Yanmega, trade him for Crobat

You, sir, are a Pokémon master. I will accept your recommendation. While I prefer Yanmega to Crobat aesthetically, Crobat's probably a better choice.

Personally I would throw in a Physic and a Dragon type.
-Haxorus is pretty good
-Gardevoir is amazing

I'm not to much of a fan of Mamoswine and Yanmega, but its whatever you like :)

I have pokemon white 2 and if you're ever looking to trade I can help. I have a lot of event pokemon(Both Legends and normal pokemon) Plus every single starter :) and of course other pokemon :)

While I'm a big fan of psychic type, I think I'm going to try and forgo them this time around. Dragon type always seem so cheap to me, and they take forever to train. Thanks for the recommendation though!

If I need to trade, I'll be sure to talk to you!

To explain what ev training is go look at this link where its fully explained in detail.

you can train a maximum of 510 ev 252 in 2 stats and 6 on a last one, ev really boosts up your stats

NO EVs: 296 ATK

Max EVs: 359 ATK

and mammoswine could be replaced by a far much better tankier pokemon imo, ex. metagross, rhyperior, blissey, snorlax, claydol, dusknoir etc... entirely up to you though.

edit: i can give you a shiny beldum if you'd like to go for the metagross.

I was considering metagross previously, but I wasn't sure. I might just hit you up for that Beldum later. I just got the game today, and I really haven't had much time to play, but I'll contact you when I can trade.

Also, the EV training sounds intense, but it might be more work than a casual player like myself would go through.

yea sure, and i am a casual player too but gotta say those evs really do wonder where it counts. its not that hard since you can actually fight lower lvl pokes to get them and or use your higher lvl poke use exp share on the lower one and he gets the evs as well, or you could just put one in the daycare, wait till it goes to a higher lvl and then ev train it. there are many ways to make it less time consuming.
