Here, I'm going to attempt to explain how and why Sasuke has overcome the curse of hatred whereas Madara did not and try to explain the curse properly with my personal comprehension of the manga.
I'll start with offering up some parallelism between Madara and Sasuke's madness, explain the curse itself, Itachi's effect on Sasuke, the effect of Tobirama's explanation of Uchiha, and how Hashirama's history lesson showed him that revenge isn't the way.
This might get pretty lengthy, I have a lot to say on the issue, you're fair warned.
Madness
The Curse Of Hatred
Tobirama's Explanation
Hashirama's Explanation
Given the factors above, I believe that Sasuke has overcome the Curse of Hatred. Feel free to disagree, and offer up your opinions.
Anyway, thanks for reading.

Madness
Sasuke and Madara's madness are essentially, the same. How so? They were both trapped in an undesirable situation.
Sasuke was on a path he believed to have no exits.
Madara left his clan and abandoned his beloved brother's wishes.
What is this similar to? Sasuke's wish to attack the village.
Sasuke and Madara believed they were gaining only scorn from their brothers and anyone left that they cared about in their actions. Loss of love, this holds relevance to the Uchiha curse, which I'll explain.

The Curse Of Hatred
The curse passed down the Uchiha bloodline that ultimately demolished Sasuke and Madara's psyche. The grandest factors here are the Uchiha's strong love and a sinister chakra, even more so than the Kyuubi's, as cited by Kurama himself.
Now, considering the fact that the Kyuubi is a giant monster made up of chakra which accumulated hate over generations, this sinister chakra of Sasuke and Madara's must be unnatural.
Whatever it is, it likely has something to do with the "special" chakra which sprouts into an Uchiha's brain when experiencing loss.
I'm not theorizing as to what this chakra is, however, it isn't a natural occurrence. Sasuke and Madara were both corrupted by this chakra, they fell to it because they went against their brothers wishes and, for Sasuke, scorning people he still cared about. Namely, Taka and Team 7. For Madara, scorning Hashirama and his own clan.
This is loss of love and friendship. Big no no for Uchiha.
Sasuke already gave everything up in order to achieve his goal of killing Itachi.
Sasuke already chose hatred over love, it falls in line that he'd do it again after Obito's explanation of Itachi's life.
Now, Uchiha have overcome this curse before, as seen in Itachi, Shisui and Kagami. How Shisui and Kagami overcame it is an unknown, Itachi overcame it in his love for his younger brother, as noted here.
Sasuke, overcame it similarly, and this is where his path diverges from Madara.
Unconditional love. This allowed him to simply think for himself and not only of hatred.
Madara had no such thing from his brother.
Madara went against his brothers wishes when he formed an alliance with the Senju, Sasuke is fighting for his brothers wishes currently.

Tobirama's Explanation
The Uchiha, were known as a clan that put jutsu over love, that blocked out such feelings. This fits Sasuke to a tee. This belief is why he abandoned the village in part 1, ultimately. He felt that his bonds with Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi weakened his hatred, as they did.
Now, Tobirama gives Sasuke an explanation of why his bonds were so deep.
This is mostly relevant to his bonds with Team 7 and Taka in my opinion, though his familial bonds were every bit as strong. He knows now that his bonds don't weaken him as he thought, they actually give him strength.
The explanation made him realize that he didn't need to push those close to him away. This is also why he apologized to Karin and protected Sakura.

Hashirama's Explanation
I used to wonder how this effected Sasuke in any way but, after thinking on it, it's the explanation of where his hatred would lead. It would lead him nowhere. He wouldn't change anything by destroying the village and following hatred as he'd just head down the path of Madara.
Madara attacked the village multiple times for an indiscernible reason and failed. Even if Sasuke were to succeed where he failed, nothing would happen. Nothing would change. His hate wouldn't leave him, his loneliness would still be there. It'd be a futile attempt at misguided justice.
